I acquired a fairly new MH and need to have the action regulated. It has the WNG action. In selecting a technician to do the work, is there anything special about the WNG action parts that would require an RPT who is experienced with it to do the regulation? Or would any experienced RPT be able to do the work (i.e., are the parts so similar to a standard wooden action that experience with it would not make a real difference)? Thanks.

Any competent individual can do it. The difference is in the materials, not the functionality.

Thanks, Keith. I thought I read somewhere that there are special courses offered that deal with the unique aspects of the WNG action, leading me to wonder if special techniques, tools (lube material), or experience is required.

If there is some action centre repinning, which is unlikely, your tech will need some specialized reamers and pins. Apart from that, your action functions basically the same as wood actions. I'm a bit surprised that a recent M&H needs regulation. Maybe some minor adjustments, but nothing major.

Most of the courses are for retrofitting WNG action parts in action rebuilding in older pianos so not necessary for new M&H pianos.

If it’s a complete WNG action with shanks, whippens back checks , even a back action - provided the friction is correct it should be easier to regulate than most others. Above average Adjustability is designed into the parts imho.
I have the WNG jig for installing back checks and tailing hammers to match. When I set checking it’s very solid and consistent and can be set at letoff if you like and that is a very unique feel.
