If this little dongle will work on the NV10 I will buy it. But how you connect it is the question? Could I use the line-out port or just a headphone jack to a usb?

TomLC, I think you will need to wait for feedback from my experiment with the Raspberry Pi Zero W solution. When I have tested it properly and it works with the N1X, then it should also work with the NV10. I'll let you know what I think with respect to the Bosendorf piano on the N1X since that one is stereo on the headphones and not binaural. As I said, watch this space. I am ordering the parts now for this test.

I will wait patiently. If one can get a true binaural headphone experience on any DP for $130, how awesome would that be? crazy

Don't know. It made the CFX sound weird - like odd and very wet acoustics - so I think layering binaural on binaural was a bad idea. I will report back on the Bosendorfer though after I've had a chance to try it once I get my standalone (non-computer) setup working with Raspberry Pi Zero W. There even may be no effect - that possibility should always be considered.

All of a sudden, we seem to label the SXFI technology "binaural". But is it, really?

Another interesting experiment, if we can select to play the CFX sound with and without its own binaural effect, and when without its own binaural effect, to insert the SXFI technology in there, and do and A to B to C comparison on a same piece of music, to see how they fare. A here is the CFX sound without anything, B is the CFX sound without its own binaural effect, but running through the SXFI, and C is the CFX sound with its own binaural effect.

@Tyrone, I'm a little confused as to why you were able to apply the SXFI to the CFX binaural sound, but not (yet) to the Bosendorfer sound? Can't you route it the same way as however you're routing the CFX binaural sound through it before?

It is HTRF-based DSP-reconstructed binaural playback. Specifically, the HTRF function is estimated via photos of your ears and face, which are used to derive your customised, but approximate HTRF, which is then programmed into an onboard DSP.

I had a DAW workstation before which was a Celeron-based mini-PC. I called it my "Piano Computer." I used it for all piano-specific processing, including handling my piano lessons via Zoom.us. I used it for running my SXFi when I was testing it with the CFX on my N1X. However, this mini-PC developed a broken fan and overheated. It is now not working any more. So I ordered from my custom-builder a completely overpowered DAW workstation replacement which will use either a Ryzen 3rd gen 3900X or 3950X processor. The 3900X that was ordered for me in July 2019 is still backordered, possibly because AMD is having yield issues with their new 7nm process (just a guess). I can't order a 3950X until September 30 when it is released. Meanwhile, I realise that using a DAW workstation to host the SXFi is a bit of overkill. So that leads me to the trial with the Raspberry Pi Zero W described above. Stay tuned on that. Certainly I will be able to try that out long before I get my new DAW workstation.

I purchased the SXFI AMP + Aurvana SE Bundle. In my understanding it’s a USB headphone amp (and the bundle apparently comes with the Aurvana SE headphones). So, not sure how I could hook it to the N1X. I imagine probably connecting both the piano to the Mac with USB and the SXFI to the Mac, send the audio from the piano to the computer and from there to use a loop back software to reroute the input to the SXFI output.

That is similar to what I did before when my computer wasn't broken.

I'm going to be trying a standalone, non-computer solution in a few days, as discussed above.

I just joined the forum to express my thanks for all of your contributions. My N1X is being delivered on Tuesday -- can't wait! It's a huge upgrade from my Casio 770.

I've posted on the priced paid thread.....I think I got a heck of a deal.

How much did you sell your N1X for? It was almost new, wasn't it?

Wow! Now THAT is a quick trade up, but I get it. The C6 is a beautiful piano. Good luck with it StefVR.

I’d trade up my N1X for a C6X right now. Especially if it comes with a free trade up of my neighbors for deaf ones.

Congratulations on your purchase! I'll never forget the day I bought my first acoustic grand and heard the authentic natural and beautiful tones reverberating off that soundboard. It was like crossing the abyss that separates the living from the dead. Please stop by the piano forum and let us know when you have it all set up.
