I really love the sound of the lute. Does anyone have recommendations for a lute sound source for keyboard that could fool listeners?

one of J.S.Bach's favourite keyboards had a harpsichord keyboard with its plectra plucking an oversize lute. ["lautenwerck" or "lute-klavier"] in his estate at his death, he had two.

the software makers who create VST's for 15th-18th century common era western instruments have created programs that replicate the instrument, and there are 'piano teq' users who've experimented with harp and lute samples, customized them, and approximated what they wanted.

there's one German company that sampled a painstakingly reconstructed Baroque lautenwerck and sells the software for eighty euros.

of course there are also arranger keyboards and synths that have synthetic lute sounds in their menus, and any of them with extensive menus for stringed instruments would probably include a lute version. some also have oud, which is a very similar and ancestral version of the lute.
