Hi

I am learning to play piano i want to buy a digital piano with weighted keys

At the moment i am cheking the Roland Fp 30 cause it has a lot of sounds but Yamaha P45 is cheaper and some people told me has better sound than the Roland FP 30

What do you think?

Thanks for your help

Sound is pretty subjective, so there will be differences of opinion. (For me, even tho I'm not a huge fan of the Roland sound in general, I'd still prefer the FP30's sound to that of the P45.)

What I think is much less subjective as regards these two specific models - is the action of the keyboard. Personally, I strongly prefer the action and feel of the Roland to that of the P45 (I've owned both) and I think MANY folks on this forum would have the same preference. To me, the P45 action is VERY light and almost toy-like; the FP30 feels more substantial and a bit closer to "the real thing" -"the real thing" being the feel of an acoustic grand action (which they all claim to aim for but fail to achieve).

Play them, of course, and judge for yourself - but perhaps the above gives you something to consider.

I agree with PWL, the action of the FP30 is much better in my mind, than the P45. However, I am one of those that thinks the sound of the P45 is better. When learning the piano, the action should matter more than the sound - the sound can be fixed through use of a VST. That's in fact what I did with my FP30. I fixed the sound by using Pianoteq.

In my opinion...

FP30 action >>>>>>> Yamaha P45 action
FP30 sound = Yamaha P45 sound... people split on this one. Usually they complain about the FP30 down-facing speakers more than the sound itself.

If you're learning and want the authentic feel of a piano, the FP30 gets you there much better than the P45's mushy action. It also integrates nicely with the Piano Partner 2 app, something that might interest you.

Good luck!

No comment on the sound as I've only really heard the P45 while playing at Costco, which is not an ideal listening environment, but as much of a Yamaha fan as I am, I have to agree, the FP30 action is much nicer and would be my choice for a piano in that price range.

Imo, PHA-4 Std = RH-C > Casio SHA2 > GHS.

The Casio gets WAY looser and clackier faster than the others, on the order of several months of regular playing. For that reason I often call it a tie with GHS, which has better longevity imo.

Thanks for al the information!!!! Awesome!! I was viewing some posts about this issue and I have doubts as well about the Kawai ES 110. But Roland FP 30 looks like the best option by far

Btw, we've forgotten to mention the more recent Roland FP10. It features the same action as the FP30 and costs a bit less. There are, as you might expect, some diifferences between the two models, which may or may not be significant for any particular user.
