Good morning folks,

Kawai Japan has issued a software update for the CA98/CA78, NV10, and ATX3/AURES digital and hybrid piano instruments.

This recommended v1.0.2j update addresses a number of bugs and is recommended for all customers.

Here is a list of the changes from v1.0.2g --> v1.0.2j

Quote
v1.0.2j (August 2019)
- Fixed: Pianist mode internal recorder could fail when recording was stopped in some cases
- Fixed: Sound mode internal recorder initial damper pedal value corrected
- Fixed: Noise could occur when changing from Favorite to Piano Music
- Fixed: Dual/Split balance was not restored correctly when changing from Favorite to Sound mode
- Improved: Handling of incorrect data stored to Sound mode internal recorder
- Changed: Reduced input level of Bluetooth Audio

This software update and accompanying update instructions can be downloaded from the ‘Software Updates’ page of the Kawai Global website, at the following URL:

http://www.kawai-global.com/support/updates

To check the version of the system software currently used by your instrument, please follow the procedures explained in the update instructions PDF.
This update does not include any changes to the touchscreen software, therefore it is not necessary to apply the 2nd and 3rd stages of the update.

Please note that this software update will clear any user-recorded songs stored in the instrument’s memory.
To retain this data, please use the Save Song function to save recordings to a USB memory device.

As always, Kawai software updates are cumulative, meaning that this v1.0.2j update includes the fixes and improvements provided with all previous versions.

That's all for now - please feel free to post your feedback in this thread.

Cheers,
James

Thanks for the info James.

My piano history in about 15 months: Artesia PA88w -> Yamaha P45 -> Kawai CN 24 -> Kawai CN 37 -> Kawai CA 78
Done with: Clair de Lune - Debussy, Waltz Op. 64 no. 2 - Chopin. Looking for a new piece, kind of learning The Mandalorian theme, and practicing with Etude Op.10 no.1 - Chopin.

The good is that Kawai still invest in the software for these DPs correcting bugs and improving the engine.

The odd is that all remnants of a changelog have been deleted and this Forum is the only place to know what has changed. A very odd choice.

Regards

Those were probably internal builds, and it made more sense to keep the external and internal build numbers the same rather than requiring some kind of table to tell which internal release matches a given external one.

In any case, thank for the heads up, James!

Isn't Kawai a Japanese company? So what happened to Japanese quality?

Right. I think h and i were mainly developed (internally) for the NV5. This then became j, to ensure that all models that use the same hardware platform share the same software version.

Kind regards,
James

Mac, does posting in a larger font improve the relevancy of its content?

I wanted to make the video smaller ... but I did not know how. In contrast the text looked tiny. So I enlarged it.

Anyway ... that subject is near and dear to me. I spent decades working in quality improvement. In many ways we were following the Japanese lead.
It seems that many companies did likewise ... and many did not. Including the company I work for now.

"We don't have time for quality!!!" Stupid.
"We're agile!!!" More stupid.

Great, how reactive Kawai is when bugs in the sound engine are discovered!

But bad that, once again, the shortcomings of the GUI are still not adressed.

Hi James,

I checked my CA78 current software version.

It shows v1.0.2 (no j or g is shown).

The software download page also only shows v1.0.2 as the Software Version.

How do I know if I need to do the update?

Kenny, may I mask how did you check the software version?

If you haven’t done so all ready, please download the software update instructions PDF, which explains how to check the system software and touchscreen software versions.

Kind regards,
James

Hello Kenny,

Ah, see.

Yes, in that case the system software running on your CA78 is quite old.

I strongly recommend downloading the v1.0.2j update from the Kawai Global website and updating the system software.

Note that the version number on the downloads page shows v1.0.2, however the file downloaded should be "ca98_ca78_v102j.zip".

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
James

there is no update or acknowledgement on the issue reported by me and few others. I think only those bug have been fixed which are easier to fix.

for my kronos ,Korg kept on releasing new software with a-lot of new features. in fact they even made the same features available to older generation kronos. due to this despite being six year old workstation i do not have urge to buy a new workstation. I would say that is a bad sales strategy from them but excellent customer concern.

This software update was finalised (for checking) at the beginning of August - a couple of weeks before the sound glitch that you experience was reported. As per the changelog posted above, this v1.0.2j update does not include any changes related to the sound engine.

Yes, that's great.
Do you know if Korg's home pianos receive the same kind of treatment?

James

I can only share from my own experience ( with equipment I have from Korg and kawai). moreover Keyboard workstation and synth is their prime focus while I believe piano is kawai'.

Hi James,

I have a CA78 with firmware v1.0.2f.

Regarding this new firmware v1.0.2j, do I need to update the touchscreen update?

Thanks!

No, it's not necessary - just updating the system software should be fine.
