Hello,
I’m starting to learn the piano
I’m torn between second hand yamaha p115 with the stand and pedals for around 850$ and a new yamaha p125 without stand or pedals for around 820$, casio privia px 150 for 550$

If you are trying to learn piano and not just keyboards, you will not get far without at least one pedal (damper pedal). You probably will not need the other two pedals for at least a year, I'd go with option #2, the P125, because of its better sound than the P115, if it still means you would still get a damper pedal and find a place to put it where the height is correct for your body (when you sit at the keyboard with your fingers on the keys and your upper arms down by your side, the bottom of your elbows at the lowest point should be about 0.5 cm below the level of the top of the keys)

Both the Roland FP30 and the Kawai ES110 should be seriously considered. The Casio PX150 is too old to be competitive. The new equivalent is the Casio PXS1000.

So... compare the...
P125
FP30
ES110
PX-S1000

Test them all.

Kind regards,

Doug.

Yep try to test out what Doug listed above. But don't over think the decision as a first piano.

All these years playing and I still consider myself a novice.

I am curious why almost nobody ever mention Korg D1?

Nothing against them from me. I have never got to try one. Only thing I see looking it up is that it only comes with a one year warranty. I know the Casio come with a three year warranty when you register them. Roland 2 years.

Some reasons I can think of:
  • mindshare
  • it does not have speakers and so looks like more of a gigging instrument than one that people use at home

But it has a few things going for it:

  • Korg's best action at a very attractive price point
  • sensible back panel design with all the jacks and connections at one end.

It can be a very good midi controller.
