Oh, here's one. Steve Weingart (no slouch.) I know the PX-S3000 doesn't have same samples as GP-500 but I think it's cool that a pro is playing this on album (instead of acoustic.) I know he's probably getting paid a sh*tload of cash but still, he wouldn't of used Casio if he was just in it for the money.

I posting this to keep Casio relevant. There's so many people boasting the other brands in the $600-800 range. I don't see any pros promoting their careers with any other brands. Please tell me I'm wrong.

It's a nice jazz music, I used to go crazy about this particular type of jazz. However I can smell the slightly artificial sound, especially on the solo snippets. Wondering why he did it. I can't believe a pro can't afford to use an acoustic piano for his record. So he either must be making a point, such as: I like this piano so much I prefer it to an acoustic. Honestly I don't believe that until I hear it straight from him. Or he was paid to use that piano. Is that mentioned somewhere, such as "sponsored by Casio", etc? Or, unfortunately it could be a sad realization that modern jazz musicians can't afford going into studios to record acoustic pianos nowadays... Not that I listen to jazz anymore but it would be very sad if that art has gone underground...

I could see a pro using a high-end digital piano just so there's no hassle with microphones and microphone quality. It's becoming commonplace in concerts:

I would have chosen a different digital piano for the recording in question.

Why don’t you listen to jazz anymore?

It may sound like the silliest (and way too obvious) answer but I realized an improvising musician (or band) would never create something as complex and well thought such as a symphony or even a solo piano piece smile

Well, in all honesty, that’s actually a post-analysis of a process that started with me being huge jazz fan going through a certain exhaustion into an almost complete indifference towards something that became sounding boringly one and the same. I still appreciate the mastery and musicianship required to improvise in the way great jazz masters do but I find it a way to cliched way of expression that’s rather a performing art than real music per se. It was only after that, when I started analyzing why it had happened and came to the conclusion in my first paragraph smile

I think this is a very insightful observation! I think it doesn't stop at jazz or just jazz in music, but to all forms of improvisation in the arts.

That is interesting indeed, and might explain why I enjoying seeing live jazz performances so much more than listening to jazz albums.

As per the description text in the YouTube video:

"The Casio GP-500 Grand Hybrid Piano was used exclusively on ‘Oasis’. Special thanks to Casio for this amazing piano."

Kind regards,

And here I thought James would challenge CG’s claim, but instead he stays ‘on topic’.
Is this a concession? Did the N1X truly beat the NV10? Is the Novus #2? wink

I didn't see CyberGene's post until now.

Only if you're a Yamaha fanboy. ;p

Okay, that’s more like it. We can’t let these -fanboy- rumors get too far! laugh
Best digital in your building, maybe; best digital on the planet, not quite (according to James). wink

Alicia Keys -- if a sampled piano VI played on a DP counts. From NI's product page (https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/keys/alicias-keys/):

"Great effort was put into making ALICIA'S KEYS as authentic as possible....So much in fact, that Alicia Keys herself used it exclusively on her latest album The Element of Freedom."

Now I wonder what DP she plays.

Oops. "Latest album" in this case means 2009, so may not qualify for your request. Begs the question: does she still use it?

You just had to get us back on topic, didn’t you, Syd? I don’t know about Canada, but here it’s rude to interrupt an ongoing and planned derailment (also known as hijacking). laugh

Holy smokes! There is actually a person named Alicia Keys?!?!?!?!?! I had always assumed that the piano software developers just created that name for marketing. S/he must be somewhere in pop music?

You’re kidding, right? You really had no idea that Alicia Keys is a real person and not just a VST?
