Hello guys,

I've had a Piano Teacher which I paid 30$ / h.
But he wasn't able to properly teach me. Also he wasn't capable of showing me proper fingering. That's why I ditched him.
Currently I have success in learning on my own, and also use The-Manual-of-Scales-Broken-Chords-and-Arpeggios-for-Piano to get more fingerings to choose from.

I don't know if this is the right area, but I'm still on the search, for someone with the same enthusiasm. What I wouldn't want is a teacher who does it's 'routine' and only does something in lessons, and not actually prepare lessons.

I'd want someone, who put his all just to music, and is capable to teach me.

I was sick of 'use app x and practice y' [...] There were many problems with those apps and I didn't benefit from the most.

The reason, why I'm looking online is the lack of a car, and the need to learn it in the proper notation. It would put me off, to hear / read in solfege. [...]

Do you guys have any recommendations?

With best regards,

What type of piano music / playing are you trying to learn? Classical? Chord piano? etc

Hello,

so far it was Video Game Music, such as The Legend of Zelda: [Sarias Song], [Song of Healing]

I wouldn't be against learning more classical, since right now my main interest is to play Video Game Music and Anime music. But I want to avoid under all cost, that I develop bad habits.
In some songs, I can't understand how to use the metronome properly, I want to learn this also.

This piano teacher specialises in teaching anime and video game music. You might check with him to see if he teaches online. BTW, this is his YT channel.

If he doesn't teach online or doesn't have availability, maybe he can refer you to another teacher of anime & video game music. I sort of feel the most important thing in learning piano is to maintain interest for long enough to develop your skill. That will of course be easier being taught to playing music you like to play, versus learning with music you hate.

Good luck.

My favorite pianist of this genre is Kara Comparetto. She's excellent. Also plays classical. She teaches, but I'm not sure if she does online teaching.

Hello,

I have googled and saw that she has a sister called Amy Comparetto, which does only teach locally from what I saw.
I think both of them are only teaching locally.

Send Nicholas http://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthreads.php/users/26942.html
a private message: he teaches and composes anime. I just don’t know if he teaches by Skype.

OP,

I wouldn’t usually name myself as the person you should contact and there are more than many great teachers online. But from what you’re saying I may be “a” teacher of interest.

Check out my website and see if it’s a fit.

If not, no worries,

Mark

.... if you want to continue the conversation said me email or a PM (and, again, if not, no worries). Dave Frank is also another great online teacher ....

With best regards,

I teach online and use a traditional/classical approach, which will be helpful to play most anime/video game music. A lot of that music is fairly difficult to play since it is often a transcription, where many instruments are in the original get condensed into one piano. This often means that the music doesn't sit very well in the hands and it presents unique problems to overcome. But it's very doable and it's good music to learn.

PM me and we can talk further. smile

Thanks you guys! I actually love anime. My favorite composer is Yuki Kajuri (Sword Art Online, Tsubasa Chronicles, etc), but I think that there's a lot of great composing going on in the anime/video game music (and filmscore) genres. laugh

That's interesting.....other than the person I linked above (Kara Comparetto), I've never known anyone into the genre, or even heard of it. Nobody here speaks much of it, although I think Dr Rogers might be into anime, from some of his posts.

Have you recorded any anime? Do you actually play video games? I don't - I have enough addictions; er hobbies, that destroy my 24 hours every day!

Themed recital, anyone?

I referenced Nikolas Sedaris earlier in this thread: a PW member who professionally composes anime music

"Music, rich, full of feeling, not soulless, is like a crystal on which the sun falls and brings forth from it a whole rainbow" - F. Chopin
"I never dreamt with my own two hands I could touch the sky" - Sappho

I've only played a bit of anime music, but I have heard enough to know what's entailed with it, and there are free sheet music sites for this. I've had students who like video game music, so my experience is more in teaching them. There is some pretty difficult stuff out there, but most things can be simplified if needed.

There is some pretty insane anime pieces out there that I wouldn't even believe were actually playable live on a real piano except for videos like this to prove they actually can be:

I have a sneaking suspicion that the version in the film is actually a MIDI rendering and the above might be the first piano performance of this piece.

This was the exact piece I was thinking about when I said there was pretty difficult stuff out there lol! But there's still some more reasonably accessible stuff. Animenz always does a good job.
