No. if you are playing at anything below performance tempo, it is not counted at all. You can speed it up though and it will count.

Maybe it could be changed such that you can earn a bronze or silver star if you can play a piece flawlessly at slower tempi.

I agree 100%. When learning pieces in the library, I only go through the slower tempos. If I need a bit more speed, I'll bring it up to tempo outside of the app. In the Method section, there are a few exercise where the faster tempo is quite frustrating.

Hi millsj1134, I've being using Piano Marvel for quite a while now on windows, but the new iPad version it's great and I would love to use that only, but I wonder if the selection feature it's on the roadmap. Let me explain why I think that feature it is very important.

I love to use PM to learn new pieces, I've uploaded a bunch of them already. And like most of people I like to learn by picking a couple of measures at time. I could do that by creating a minced version, but that is extremely time consuming.

So, I create 2 chopped versions, one for each hand, and practice by selecting manually with the mouse the desired measures, with that I can practice a few measures at the time, while having almost all the benefits of minced versions.

Unfortunately that selection it is not available on iPad. Do you have plans to add that?

A couple of comments to the various points on here

1) Tempos too fast.

They may appear to be initially - practice at slower speeds A LOT. Particularly practice relaxing and let the speed build up. I even copy the piece to my own uploads, and make my own exercises - initially at quite slow tempos, but slowly building them up to close to full speed. With my own copy I can make exercises that much more do what I want them to.

I find the more relaxed I can be whilst playing the piece the faster I can go. Its also a mind game. Deep concentration coupled with relaxation and time seems to slow down.

2) Editing exercises

I actually do that on my linux system - doesn't have a piano marvel run capability, but I can edit exercises on my desktop just great. I'm sure most don't have a linux system - but any system with a large screen and a browser can be used to edit on and its easy. Try and have a copy of the score (printed or otherwise on another screen) as you edit exercises. It makes knowing start and end points so much easier to work out with the score in front of you.

3) Selecting measures on an ipad.

In "Play Controls" (bottom right) there is a start and end measure markers which you can adjust with + and - buttons. They didn't work on an earlier Beta release, but I reported an error today they work fine.

For the one who use an iPad, how do you connect your iPad to your piano ?

I went round in a few circles looking for the ideal stuff. The core of it is this USB hub

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07GPC9HMF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has usbc which plugs directly into the iPad, it as a usbc hub port into which I plug the power supply for the iPad.
The piano plugs into the USB 3.0 socket (the blue one).

It also has two USB 2.0 ports into which I plug this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B016CU2PEU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

to one of them. This gives me a place to plug a cable into the green jack socket - which then feeds to the "line-in" of my Piano

Finally I have a led usb desk lamp that connects to the other USB 2.0 port and lights my music.

With that set up, all of piano marvels sound is fed back into the piano and I listen to all of it either on the piano speakers or headphones plugged into the piano. In this set up its important to set up the player controls so that the instrument volume in piano marvel is zero, otherwise you get the piano you are playing twice, once from the piano and a second time fed back from piano marvel.

And the ipad is not running down its batteries and remains 100% charged.

I did also buy this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07M5K6M44/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Not for piano marvel, but to plug ear buds into whilst listening to youtube videos at my daughters house and not disturbing anyone.

Just finished Sight Reading and Harmony Grades 3-4 with 100% on everything. I'm hoping Josh will add the other 102 exercises in sometime soon. I tried the first exercise in Sight Reading and Harmony Grade 5-6, RH only and only got 37%. Its going to take some dedication to score 100% on those!

No. Just working through exercises. I got the right and left hand of Exercise 1 done now, just hands together to work out. My score is slowly increasing, but not had much time on it yet as other things to do today

Josh has put up another livestream video on you tube

I have been creating bundles and yesterday did the complete set of pieces to 100% from level 3 (A->E)
I have created separate bundles from 4A to 5C one for each sublevel. It was very easy to do

Bundling! Sounds like a new feature. I'll have to catch the video then.

Nothing new...in upload, create book...create bundle in book. I did that 3 years ago with the SASR from the library.

You can also make a bundle a boot camp by editing and setting the appropriate flag. I think I will wait until I have scored 100% on every thing at a given level and then make a bootcamp out of it which I can take every so often.

Hello everyone! I am new to this site and to piano marvel.

While saving for a proper piano I have gotten my start with my Schoenhut toy piano. I have music experience in playing the ukulele for 6 years and that helps with practicing technique and reading.

This month I am about to break the 500 minute mark and am on the 2a level in technique and method books. It is fair to say I am addicted! The only trouble I am having is wrist discomfort due to carpal tunnel. I have been limited to about 60 minutes of play per day.

6 years learning the ukulele and started playing toy piano in late July 2019

Welcome to PW!

It's possible the unweighted keyboard you are using might be exacerbating your wrist situation.
