My customer said the piano is in the carriage house, and there will be contractors working on the outside. Should be easy enough to spot, right?

Driving down the street I notice the homes are getting bigger and more elaborate. Then I spot one that should be around the number I'm looking for and it has a carriage house and people working on the outside.

I pull in, man working on porch tells me it's the wrong house, but he plays piano (takes one of my cards). He said the house you want is two house over.

I pull into the driveway of the house two houses over. It has a carriage house and contractors working outside. A young man comes out and asks if he can help me. I tell him I'm the piano tuner. Just then an older man comes out, he asks who I'm looking for, he says that's the house next door (the one I skipped). But... We have two pianos and our tuner recently passed.
I go inside, scope it out, give them my business card and the older gentleman gives me his contact information and asks me to set up the tunings.

Finally I get to the house in the middle, it has a carriage house, and contractors are working on the outside. Yay, it's the right house! Three houses in a row, all with carriage houses, all with contractors working outside, and two of them produced new found business. Some days the stars line up.

I used to go to the beach in Kennebunk when I worked as a counselor at a Maine summer camp.

I once got a good customer because I had the wrong address!

I remember Del Fandrich telling me a story of going to a clients house, and they weren't there. However the door was unlocked so he went in and tuned the piano. Turned out his client had moved and the new family also had a piano!

I also once tuned a piano at a church only to discover towards the end of the tuning that I was in the wrong church! (yep they got that one for free!)

All in good fun!

I always contact my customers after 12 months and so this spring I saw two on the same page that I tuned one year ago and so I called one and got her piano then when I called the other one I must have been distracted after I hit the first three numbers or mixed up somehow, anyway, I ended up punching the last four numbers of the the lady I just called.

A lady whom I didn't know from answered the phone and I asked for the lady whose home I thought I called (that was on my list). She was quite a few seconds then said there is no one here by that name. So, thinking I had the right number I lightly argued and she said "what is it you are after anyway"...I told her I tune and repair pianos and she said "Well, I don't know who you are trying to call but I have a piano that needs tuned....do come over".....I did and told her what I had done when I went there after I checked the number....funny stuff.
