Is anyone hunting for a bargain? How about this offer on Ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-DGX640-C-Cherry-88-Key-Digital-Piano-Keyboard-Stand-Adapter-Notes-Stand/161006493766?hash=item257cbc2046:g:5dEAAMXQXQxRZ1x-

Only $12,000 for a DGX640. Such a deal!

It gets better! Ebay has a $5 off special. Pay only $11,995. You had better hurry for this one.

And here's another bargain ... a USB Cable for Yamaha Digital Piano P-115 ... for the low, low price of only $1715.01 (plus $180 shipping).

They could at least offer the kind that offers delta-wave irradiated, xenon-free copper, with sub-space antimatter enhancements.

And was $1715.00 not enough? It had to be $1715.01?

I'm at a complete loss to understand listings like this.

Amazon lists books from some sellers which are like this. For example, see this used book.

Hi MacMacMac,

My favourite ebay 'deals' usually have in the title: "originally £x,xxx" for an instrument which is clearly >10 years old, it is clearly worth £x,xx.

Recently had an example of this:
Advert said: Roland V-piano £2,200 (originally cost me £4,500) refurbished by manufacturer.

--- IMO, if in mint condition, the V-piano is now worth (tops) £1200 with stand and triple pedal (still over expensive for PHAIII action and only piano sounds).

I think it's understandable that V-piano owners would over-estimate their instruments worth: it must be tough to overpay by around £2,500 for an instrument and then have to watch their purchase depreciate to roughly the value of a used VPC1 (arguably a better purchase). I thought about buying a slightly damaged one recently that was going for £998 but realized that for £1,600 you can get a mint condition used RD2000. The RD2000 new price has dropped quite a bit and is also getting long-in-the tooth given that Roland have recently released the new modelling engine---I expect the FP90 and RD2000 will soon get updated with that sound engine in the next 18 months.

So I'm thought: my MP7 (plus pianoteq if needed) is actually worth more than a V-piano to me as it has brilliant sounds /functionality and has a better action. Some part of me would like to own a V-piano one day if only for a while, but I find that even around £1000 is too much for a modelled piano with a 2009 digital action. What do you guys think? How much would you pay for a used V-piano

Kind regards,

Doug.

Yes, Doug. I saw lots of overpriced pianos on Ebay. And yes, it's ridiculous that someone asks full retail for a ten-year-old piano.

I was focused on items that were far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far far beyond ridiculous.

Such as that $12000 price for a piano that's available in stores today for around $1000.
And the $1700 price for a cable that sells every day for $10 tops.

The Piano Forum here on PW had a long-running thread about ridiculous prices (and claims) in Craigs List listings.
I'm thinking this thread might serve as a similar humorous diversion here on the digital side of PW.

I'm amazed that they don't include shipping in that ridiculous price...

Clearly, you guys have not heard the old joke about the guy selling pencils on a street corner with a sign that reads, "Pencils: $1 million each", and the guy keeps muttering under his breath: "I only need to sell one, I only need to sell one."

A free market economy means we can ask any price we want for a good, it doesn't mean anybody will pay it.

I look at prices for artwork and wonder why I didn't get in when it was cheaper and also why I didn't run into Banksy in Central Park and buy his drawings for $80, drawings that later sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars at Sothebys, if I recall correctly.

Sure, it's absurd to try to charge people ridiculous prices for USB cables and old digital pianos, but I don't think it's illegal.

I think in many cases they just change the price to something ridiculous while the item is out of stock in order to avoid hassle and fees related to cancelling and reposting the ad when they have it back again. I've seen the same ad change from a sensible price one day to one of these astronomical OTT prices the following day, and then back again a couple of weeks later.

I only get those ridiculous prices on my "local ebay", and those are prices considering importing and shipping fees, still its funny to see things that you can buy locally at lets say $100 for $400 with 15 day delivery. Its usually cheaper to just buy on ebay/amazon.

On that topic i found a "Support of support for portable piano made of wood with support", and it was this thing. Silly chinease google translations.

My piano history in about 15 months: Artesia PA88w -> Yamaha P45 -> Kawai CN 24 -> Kawai CN 37 -> Kawai CA 78
Done with: Clair de Lune - Debussy, Waltz Op. 64 no. 2 - Chopin. Looking for a new piece, kind of learning The Mandalorian theme, and practicing with Etude Op.10 no.1 - Chopin.

'Piano' in Chinese is 钢琴 which transliterated is 'gangqin.' 'Gang' means steel and 'qin' is zither. And a "steel zither" actually seems like an apt description for the kalimba instrument above. I guess someone must have done a word-by-word translation. Google translate actually does a proper job for this and produces "piano." as it should.
