Yay!!! Today, my new (to me) Yamaha C2 was delivered!! I am ecstatic!

I still may move some of the small things in the room around a bit. (Like the lamp, don't know where I want that to go yet).

I played it a little bit, it sounds great, even after the move. I would have played more if it weren't for this pesky thing called work

I am overjoyed!!! I can't put it into words!!!! I did cry a bit when it was all put together and I got my first look at it!

Thanks to everyone who has commented in this forum in my various threads about pianos, about room layouts etc. And a special shout out to TerminalDegree and Rickster for lots of advice and kind words throughout my search!

Congratulations!! When you mentioned finding room for a 5’8” grand piano, I thought you might have bought the C2 or C2X! What a wonderful choice!

ShiroKuro - there’s a thread on the Adult Beginners forum to post a picture of your piano room. Those pictures and the floor plan from your other thread would be perfect 👌.

Thanks everyone!!

Lady Bird, I actually moved that lamp because with the layout of the room it looks better in a different spot, but that's one less thing I have worry about! smile

I am so soooo happy!!! 3hearts

Congratulations! Do you like the placement, or do you hate me for suggesting it? 😆

grin

I like it so far!! It sounds good, and it makes the best use of the room too, so there's room for a modest amount of seating for a piano party etc.

Congratulations! It looks like the perfect mate to the already-beautiful room. Did the padded bench come from Yamaha, with the piano? A very thoughtful touch; I could tell you stories about things I have sat on to play the piano, that would give you a permanent wave. [I may have shuddered, but I played anyway.] It reinforces the impression that this piano is a beautifully-crafted instrument, with everything about it the result of careful deliberation... all of it, hoping to please you. Though it is a separate effort, I would have to include the very great effort you made in picking it out. So much riding on that moment of decision: for the maker, life and death; for the pianist: well. That is not so easy to put in a few words. Maybe you will be the best one to find them.

There will be those who will wonder about the light coming from the window, worried that sunlight might damage the finish and challenge the tuning stability. Or if the HVAC vent will blow on it. I would imagine you already have those aspects covered. The curtain is obvious to anyone, and as for the heater vent, well, it is August. Any large hardware store will have plastic air directors to make the vent blow where you tell it to.

I turned my piano around at least 20 times, maybe more, partly to find just the right place in an acoustically challenging room, and partly for 'well, why not?' You could do a great photo series on this. It's absolutely amazing the way that moving the piano four inches in the right direction can make such a difference in the sound from the piano bench. Even so, I had to do some tuning of the room to get a satisfactory acoustic result. Two walls: two full stories of parallel, naked gypsum board. Faux pergo floors. Stone fireplace. If you clap your hands on the staircase, the report echoes back-and-forth like a pistol shot--- or, it did. Not now.

I have been fortunate in my neighbors, who say they like the piano. They mostly hear it as they pass by my front door, which is nothing special. The windows are better at not leaking sound, being new thermo-pane (they keep it out rather well, too). But I try to not give my neighbors anything to complain about, regarding hours, etc. And I have made sure that they all know that if the piano is bothering them, I would really rather they let me know than to just suffer silently. These things can be addressed. If you can hear their orgasms and football games, they can hear your piano. Yet all can, for the most part, live peaceably. They may even be a little bit proud of you.

You are going to have so much fun!
