Just got a brand new N1X and while the MIDI to USB works for recording into Logic Pro X, the USB to Host does not work properly. It's like an incomplete signal to the computer, so no recording (MIDI or Audio) takes place, but it does recognize that notes are played. In other words, I can't get the N1X to record audio into Logic Pro unless I use the L and R Aux.

Logic Pro support investigated the issue and determined that Yamaha should be the ones to answer to this because everything works right with my other MIDI controller's USB to Host, but not the N1X. Any else have problems with USB to Host in Logic Pro using the N1X? Thanks! -Scott

Congratulations on the N1X! I’m getting one delivered myself in about 2 weeks.

I can’t answer your question since mine hasn’t arrived and I don’t own Logic Pro X, but hopefully it’s just a matter of finding the right software settings.

Have you tried using the USB to Host connection on your N1X with a VST? If that works it suggests that connection is fine. I tried this recently with Garritan CFX on my Yamaha P-515 and it was a little tricky at first.

Hopefully one of the more knowledgeable posters can chime in on your question.

Thanks JJHLH! I'll give that a try with my Vienna Symphony Library.

Hopefully these two weeks will fly by for you. Enjoy the N1X!

I seem to recall that for the usb to host to work as intended you need a specific yamaha driver (Ymaha Steinberg driver) (at least for the P515), while midi gear works out of the shelf thanks to Apple drivers (core midi). But I read about it in the Yamaha web pages, so it should be there. I myself have never used the usb to host to connect the piano to the computer (I use midi), so I didn’t install it, but you might want to check it out, if not done already

Thanks guys. So I actually took my laptop to a store with the N1X last nite, and the MIDI recorded properly from USB to Host (w/o driver). Guess yamaha will have to replace this one!

I'm still not sure what your problem is. You speak about MIDI, incomplete signal, then audio... Which one of these? Which one is working and which one is not working, so that you think it's "incomplete"?

What is it that you are trying to record in Logic Pro in particular?

Let me clarify for you. Connecting your Mac to the N1X through a USB to host terminal can be used for both MIDI and audio transfer, and in both directions: piano to computer, computer to piano. All those should work without the need for a driver with one exception: the piano to computer audio which requires installation of additional driver that has been linked in one of the responses. Have you tried that?

Also, make sure you have reset your piano to factory settings by holding the highest C key while switching on.

I highly doubt it the piano is defective and needs a replacement.

I will eventually try recording my new N1X via MIDI signal to Logic Pro on my MacBookPro and be happy to report back to the forum.

In the past (on my old Roland KR-375 digital piano), I used my Steinberg UR22 audio interface box for either MIDI or Audio recording. So far, I've just tried AUDIO recording of my new N1X using the L and R Aux connectors to my Steinberg UR22 and everything works fine when recording in to Garage Band. I will eventually migrate to LogicPro (already installed on my computer, but not yet used much), when I have a bit more time.

Would anyone know the following - - - Music editing capability not considered (for now), will the best (most acoustically realistic) N1X recording be achieved using MIDI or using Audio (using my Steinberg UR22 audio interface box)? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated, as I research how to get the most acoustically realistic recordings from my N1X. If this has been answered specific to N1X in another thread, please point me to that thread if possible.

Thanks again in advance; much appreciated !
