I'm almost done disassembling an upright, but not sure what do next. I tried using my sledgehammer on the posts, but they won't budge. I don't want to wake up my neighbors by trying to hammer them more. I'm thinking of sawing the posts, but I'm sure there must be an easier way.

Got some hydraulic "bottle jacks"? You can sometimes rent them for a day. Use lengths of 4x4 to push the top and bottom of the back off of the posts. You will want to wedge the sound board off of the back either before or during doing so.

Kinda like this:

The soundboard doesn't have cuff-of bars...

I used a car jack to get them separated. The end ones were easy. The inter posts I had to saw half way before they split with the jack.

The wheels on the front of the jack moved forward and popped off the soundboard when I cranked up the jack between the posts.

Now look he has a cracked soundboard. Now you do not have to worry about the humidity!
