I've always been attacted to bright and soulful pianos like the sound to this introduction which goes back to the early 80's.

Can someone tell me what make of piano this is and whether there is a VST that sounds like it?
(I am suspecting its a Steinway). Is the sound all down to recording studio effects?

It's difficult with the other orchestra sounds in background, but I think it's a real acoustic piano sound. It has so many little details in those ringing strings...

Sorry, I misread your post. If it's an 80s recording then it's of course an acoustic piano. Don't know a VST that sounds like that. Maybe the Imperfect Samples Walnut Steinway.

Hard to pick the make of piano in that clip, but for a sampled piano which would get close to that bright, resonant tone, I strongly recommend the Sampletekk White Grand - Studio Grand Piano:

https://www.sampletekk.com/grand-pianos&product_id=163

You'll need a full version of Kontakt to run it (ie. not the Free Kontakt Player). There is a cheaper edition (with one stereo mic perspective):
https://www.sampletekk.com/grand-pianos&product_id=205

They normally have a Summer Sale with 50-60% off so it would be worth waiting a week or so if you're interested in buying it.
