What is the cause of limited sustained sound when a single key is played without using the sustain pedal? Are there a certain number of seconds that it should sound?
Is this fixable on an older grand?
Thank you

When a string gets old it's flexibility is affected causing the string to not vibrate as long as a new string. If the strings are rusty you can attempt to remove the rust. But the problem is you can't remove the rust from the underside of the string. A permanent fix it to restring the piano.
