I don't post many new threads these days.

Today is day 1 of my piano party this year, here in rural Bulgaria. To get ready for the party I wanted everything to be close to spot on, so my technician had taken away the sction of the Bluthner model 1 to replace the felt on the ends of the keysticks- where they lift the dampers. It had become very ragged. When he replaced it he also regulated the action fully. The difference is amazing! I am absolutely delighted and almost overwhelmed at how much better it all sounds.

That is the one on which the recital will be played on Sunday afternoon, so it had to be as good as possibleand I think that has been achieved.

Hi Philip,

I wish you wold start MORE threads. I always enjoy them when you do. Please remind me, does your Blüthner have a Patent Action or a modern action?
Either way, new key end felt would necessitate regulation, at least of the back action, and while you are at it, you might as well regulate the entire action.

Since the action is designed to work like a Swiss watch, with many parts working in exact "harmony" with others, a proper regulation will make more responsive, and along with voicing, can really transform an instrument.

Good luck on Sunday. I hope you take many photos and some video and post it here.

Cheers!

Hi Philip,

Is it too late for me to attend your piano party! smile

Would love to meet you in person and play your Bluthner grand piano! Ah, but, alas, I don't have a passport and have never been out of my country. Guess I'm not well traveled. But it is nice to read about other piano enthusiasts in other countries here on PW.

I am planning on attending another "Piano Buddies" party Sunday week. It's nice to meet and hear other's play and play what little I know for them. smile

A fun time indeed!

Glad you got your Bluthner regulated, serviced and ready to go! (Still wish I could be there:-)

Rich, you enjoy my posts? Amazing.

Rickster, I will put your name down for the 2020 party. Plenty of time for you to get a passport etc. for that one.

Photos and videos? How little you all know me.

BTW it is a modern action, not the Bluthner patent one. 1932, so before economies were necessary due to the war.

Bulgaria is above Greece (just North of Thessaloniki) and below Romania. So from the US it IS in that direction. On the other hand, from Bulgaria, both Philadelphia and Vancouver are in the same direction as well, so that might not help much. wink laugh

Philip, enjoy!

Bulgaria and Romania are completely different nations, each beautiful in their own way!
Hoping you'll get a few of the amazing pianists from your country for your party! thumb

During the performance a C Sharp stopped working. (I thought those black bits were just to stop the white ones rubbing together, but apparently they also make a noise if you hit them). Anyway it is all working fine now. I think it was an humidity issue.
