I played it for 10 minutes at his place an everything was working fine. Will set it up tonight when I get back from work and have a proper play.

She’s a keeper! My marriage didn’t bring with it the possibility of a grand but I did win the possibility of an upright.

I think no one should ever block their partners dreams and hobby's, but encourage them! Unless there is a very good reason not to do so! (as long as they are healthy and positive dreams and hobby's)

I also want a (small) grand in the future, i don't have a big house and my girlfriend did not like the idea at first, but im talking alot about it and im getting there.. i know it will happen. grin But to be honest im not in a hurry at all, every new bit of music i learn makes me love my upright more and more, and i already feel blessed that i can have it, and have discovered this nice world of piano in the first place.

Congratulations, you truly were lucky! And ebony polish shocked wow

As for the wealthy guy and his girlfriend...well, if anyone knows...bros before...youknow, the bro code. I think, for pianists, there should be the piano code that favors pianos before (wo)men. No other person can give you so much love as a proper instrument <3 Being healthy he totally should've gotten a big grand ^

Finally put the kids to bed and set the thing up.
It certainly looks the part - much more pleasing to the eye than the ES-8 I’m renting. Speakers are surprisingly beefy and the CFX sample is pretty good - especially the lower registers.

With that said I definitely prefer playing the ES8 - the action is just much nicer to my touch - more loose and alive.

I’ll hold on to the 645 for a few days just to see if I enjoy it more after getting to know it better but I will probably sell it at a nice profit and put the money in the acoustic savings account.

Almost terrifyingly so.

I don't reckon the k300 is that good . . . .

I can imagine that. These folded Yamaha actions are not bad, but I think they feel kind of... dead, compared to Kawai's actions.

It feels stiff and precise in a way that just doesn’t feel good to me. Just went back and forth between the 645 and the ES8 for half an hour or so and there really is no contest for me.

I'm not sure what you mean by "dead".

I find them to be much, much too alive. (At least when new. Mine is ten years old and not nearly so alive.)

But the CLP-645 keyboard has wooden wood inside the keys, so it must feel better, surely?

Employed by Kawai Japan, however the opinions I express are my own.

When I was deciding what instrument to buy, someone insisted on me trying Yamaha P-515 which features the same action (GrandTouch) as CLP-645...which is way more expensive...so it must be great, right? I ended up returning it and buying VPC-1 which I now like.

Time and time again the Yamaha folded actions are proven to be inferior when compared to proper hammer actions found in Kawai. Extra wood in the keys doesn't make any difference. A bad action isn't any better just because it ends with wooden keys. It's a mere selling point.

You were misinformed. The P515 does not have the "Grand Touch" action. It has the NWX.

Oh, sorry, you're right.

If CLP 645 has even better action than P-515 and still feels bad, that's a shame, at that price point.

I thought the same some years ago when I purchased the CA63 wink

BTW: It took me a few weeks to get used to the NWX action. But when I sit down at a Steinway grand, I feel right at home. In fact any acoustic piano I came along since I got my P-515 didn't provide much of a challenge anymore, unlike before.

Obviously the Kawai digital action I used for almost five years feels completely off now... It's all highly subjective.

Indeed it is. An I'm sure I would get used to the 645 just fine if I kept it and got rid of the ES8. I imagine that me having played less than 2 years and thus not having a great deal of experience with a variety of actions serves to accentuate the discomfort I feel when something feels different or off. I remember way back when I had only just learned to drive that driving a car I wasn't used to was a big deal - these days I adjust in minutes.
Anyways - the 645 is definitely being sold off or traded in in favour of an acoustic.
