It has been mentioned before on the forum. I think it is genuine.

What a pro she is. She kept the audience amused and just took the whole thing in her stride.

I love this video. Eliane Rodrigues is a class act!

Not funny to me, but she make a day of it with her smile and positive attitude.

Yes, was talked about before. She really did a great job given the situation.

Whether staged or not, she’s a great performer and I enjoyed watching her play and respond to the situation. The switching pianos under the stage seemed seamless ( pardon pun). Her performance added a bit of magicians’ fun for the audience and I enjoyed watching how she and her team gracefully handled the switch. I’m guessing it was staged but it was fun to watch. Thank you Norbert for posting!

Looks like something Victor Borge would have done, but I enjoyed the video very much! A class act, whether staged or not! smile

I love this! I've seen it before but I watched it again just because it's so awesome. Her reaction is charming, a true performer. You can imagine another person maybe getting angry or staying off stage until the piano swap is finished. Also, I love how she helps them get the piano into the right spot at the end. I'm sure she completely had the audience 100% on her side at the end of all that.

Also, extra points for one of the best stage costumes!

Why would this be staged? Why would the tech deliberately embarrass himself?

This is a well known and respected pianist, and her Christmas Chopin recital has become something of an institution in Rotterdam.

The video is edited to cut out the gap when changing pianos.

This was my thinking. I don't get the claims that it was staged. If it were staged, it would have been more dramatic! :P

I tell this story every time this video pops up here. For those who have heard it before, I apologize in advance.

Van Cliburn was touring in the early 60s in the wake of his big Tchaikovsky win, and came to Peoria, Illinois for a recital that I attended as a young pianist. Early in his final piece it became increasingly obvious (at least to the piano players in the audience) that the piano lyre was coming loose. By the time he was halfway through it was dangling, limp and useless, from the bottom of the piano. Van never missed a beat.

He of course got a standing ovation, and applause that begged for an encore. Van apologized and pointed out the pedal lyre problem, but the piano tech had left already. So what did he do? He went backstage, scrounged up a screwdriver, and in white tie and tails crawled under the D and fixed the pedal lyre himself. Then he got up, dusted himself off, and started playing encores.

Astonishing.

Larry.

I think it's inexcusable that nobody checked out the piano prior to the performance.

With live performances, something’s almost always not quite right. But a seasoned professional works through it. Without a diva meltdown. Bravo! Roses should be thrown at Eliane Rodrigues’ feet.

Eliane Rodrigues is a real trooper, for sure. Most pianists would simply leave the stage until the problem was fixed, but she was there to entertain, and so she did! Playing that well standing up is amazing.
