I really do not like that pinkish coloured light. It seems to
look a "Barby doll morgue "
Perhaps because I am slightly claustrophobic it seems worse
than it is.

I just read the article and I don't see what all of the negative comments are for. They have 200 MILLION dollars worth of pianos in that room and they want to keep them safe, and want to show them off to those who think 2 million dollar pianos are worth buying...so a vault door, lots of security and really nice lighting.

What's the big deal?

Lots of manufacturers of musical instruments have their "for the ultra rich" line of instruments. Good for them.

I really don't think a bunch of special veneer pianos (crown jewel) and some special design pianos in this ugly morgue worth 200 million dollars. Or is that the story they sell to their ultra rich clients?

Not sure what article Bob read?
Six pianos in the vault...
Article states the value of three at $2.5 million, $217k, and $199k.
The article also states the other three average $200k in value.
So even with Steinways inflated values, the total would be $3.516 million.

Plus the vault is in the factory.
So if it was really needed to keep the pianos safe, that would mean the rest of the inventory was at risk.

It's just marketing. They have a bunch of designer pianos they can't sell so they stick them in a "vault" with a fancy door. How could someone steal one of these pianos? How could they sell it?

Music is art, these piano's are art.

Whether you like them or not is irrelevant.

No need to be cracking on these piano's for whatever reason.

Some of you should listen to my mother.

In western society we put art in an art gallery to contemplate on it.We go to the symphonic hall to hear
sublime music to give meaning to us.
With other so called " ethnic people" art serves a social function. It used for dancing even wearing clothes.
For protest music etc.
This thing where pianos are kept in this place is not art
it is just marketing by Steinways for the very wealthy.
These pianos are not art even though they have fancy
cabinets
Art and it's meaning is about life nothing more.

Excerpt the Pictures in exhibition D, all other grands in this “secret vault” such as Crown Jewel edition, Lalique, Imagine ect. have been exposed in Steinway Paris showroom, where everyone can take a visit and play on without any secret. Ah, one more different remark: all of them are Hamburgers. Apparently no NY Steinways allowed, ooups!

I have to disagree. Just because us normal folks cant buy/afford it, the art status does not get taken away.

Like I said before, the fact you don't like/appreciate it has nothing to do with it being art.

Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts (artworks), expressing the author's imaginative, conceptual ideas, or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power.

If you don't think this is art I don't know what is!

Yes, I see that you are correct.
I cannot believe a Hamburg made it into “The Vault”!?

Before long Europeans are going to start thinking Hamburgs are almost as good as New York models. shocked

I think it is universally accepted that European pianos are better then american pianos.

I think Hamburg v. New York is mostly an American preoccupation. grin
