Thank you! I know what you meant. So do you consider grand A175 as an excellent grand piano?

It sounds like from Piano Buyer as though you would not have
to pay extra for a Sostenuto Pedal (surely not !.)if you wanted
a different Concert 8 .However it seems as though your dealer
has an Academy model 175 in stock.I am not an expert piano
adviser but to me the A series 175 sounds like a very good baby
grand piano.

That’s what my dealer told me when I asked. Good, thanks a lot again! Your input has been very useful to me.

You have mentioned the Ravel Sonatine as one of the pieces you play, which puts you on a rather advanced level of playing. I would probably recommend a grand instead of an upright simply for its action. While a 175 is not a concert grand, it feels a lot closer to one in terms of responsiveness and dynamic possibilities.

Thank you very much indeed. Yes, that made me quite frustrating when I practised my Ravel piece with my concert 8 though the sound of it is really amazingly beautiful. But to me, Bechstein Grand Concert series is totally out of my budget and what I was allowed to exchange with is only the same brand instead of the others.... I dunno if that’s the right choice to choose a grand of ?lower series....

But you are right, at least the Academy Grand is closer to one in terms of responsiveness and dynamic possibilities. Thank you for your expert opinion.

It seems that you have answered your own question! The tone of the concert 8 is everything you could wish for but the playing experience isn't, and while the Academy might not be quite as beautiful in terms of tone, you will have everything you want in the playing experience which, from the pianists perspective, is more important.

I've written it in a different posting, so just briefly: With the Academy series you're getting a Bechstein designed and manufactured in Germany. It's not a lower series, it serves a different audience, i.e. an audience looking for a sturdy piano which will be in heavy use and cosmetics don't play a major role as opposed to a concert grand on stage. I believe you'll be very happy with the piano and TBQH I can't see myself buying a Bechstein Concert series, unless I get rich by accident and would bite my nails over the decision of buying a C 234 or a D 282.

All the difference between these two grands are discussed
in the link to Piano Buyer above. There must be differences
since the price of the Academy grands are so much cheaper
than Concert series.
However you can hardly get much better than a C Bechstein
Academy grand !Since you are set on working for a piano
diploma it is better for you to have a grand .
Best wishes to you on your new piano and your piano studies !

I deeply appreciated for all who contributed in solving my dilemma in throwing out all the very useful and important information about Bechstein, about upright vs grand piano. Now I am looking forward to the arrival of my baby! Hope it would be sent to my locality and my home soon.

Have a wonderful day, everyone!
