I really try (hard) not to follow anything of the private life of pianists (or musicians, or movie actors, ...), even if they publish themselves pictures of their wife, kids or other stuff. I think that only leads to be more interested in their private life details rather than in the actual music. I also think it disturbs the perception and judgement of one's performance. If you find a pianist to be a good person, it does influence your judgement of his musical style.

I am not at all interested to know who Lang Lang married, or who was his past girlfriend btw. Now obviously Lang Lang and other do this on this exact purpose which is to attract people to their personality rather than to their musical style. That I assume is part of our new culture to post our vacation pictures on FB so that the whole world can admire.

Apart from his private life, LL is a good pianist, though I do not like his interpretative choices in Bach, Mozart nor Chopin. I liked his interpretation of Für Elise though, quite simple and flowing unlike his other interpretations. Obviously I am probably part of a minority.

I really thought my reference to "page six" with even a link for those who are less familiar with such vernacular, would be enough to wave off the social commentary. wink But I think perhaps a sterner warning is called for. How's this?

I linked the definition of "page six" for those who didn't get that idiomatically, "page six" = gossip pages of a newspaper. wink

LL's announcement of his marriage or posting about it on PW is not at all inappropriate IMO.

I agree. If I were LL I would announce the marriage as well. And talking about it here is appropriate as well, imo.

Would you feel better if Tyrone put "OT" in the subject? Really, if you're not interested, don't read it.

Congrats to Lang Lang and Gina Alice Redlinger (is she changing her name?). That wedding looked fabulous!

Awwww, I love that picture of them at the top of the article. Gives me the warm-and-fuzzies.

I wonder, though, how two pianists married to each other organise their piano time? Do they have two piano rooms far apart so they can practice at the same time? Or a practising timetable? Questions that make the world go round.

P.S. And before someone else comes in and takes it too seriously: The above questions are meant in a light-hearted way.

I thought the pictures were wonderful.... but my very first thought was the same as yours: ‘how will they practice?’ And my second thought was ‘with two concert careers, it will be hard for them to spend time together.
