I set up the split mode according to the manual but the light for the instrument, in this case bass, keeps blinking even after it's been selected. I saw a video on YouTube and his did the same thing. Surely the people at Kawai don't expect you to play a piano while it's blinking at your face. Am I missing something or is this just a terrible design flaw?

Most electronic instruments have a host of blinking lights. If it bothers you, perhaps you could cover it with a piece of black cloth?

I must admit that I rarely look at the keyboard when I’m playing, so lights don’t bother me personally. I keep my eyes on the music. My P-515 has a bright blue LCD screen in the exact centre of the keyboard, which I guess might bother some people?

Yes, this is the correct behaviour, according to the owner's manual (p.20):

Yeh I read that and assumed it meant while I was assigning the split. Damn that's annoying.

If you save the split as a "Registration," does it still blink? I'd try it out, but my piano is on the workbench awaiting its new rubber contacts (operation date, tomorrow).

For what it's worth, the blinking light has never bothered me. It's telling you that if you select a different button, that's the voice that will change; which is useful information during performance.

The layout of that section from the owner's manual is rather beautiful, if I do say so myself. wink

Having fixed my ES8, I can confirm that if the blinking light bothers you, you can save your split as a "registration" and it will not blink.

But I was wrong about the blinking voice being the one that changes when you press another button: it's the solidly "on" one that changes.

Good tip on using the Registration function if the flashing LED becomes a distraction!

Yes, the solidly on LED indicates the upper section sound, while the flashing LED indicates the lower section sound. I believe the thinking is that during a performance players are more likely to change the upper section sound (e.g. piano to EP) while keeping the lower section sound (e.g. bass).

Kind regards,
James

Thanks for the kind replies. I'll save as a registration as suggested. Is a usb drive required to save it?
