Hello,

I bought a Yamaha P45 display piece and bargained down the price quite a bit. The owner of the store even gave me a lift in his car with the keyboard.

Last night for a few minutes I had the following issue:
When you press down on the B key (anywhere on the keyboard), you can not play the C right next to it.

I already reset the settings and switched on and off. The issue went away on it's own but is now back!

Here is a short video:
https://youtu.be/GbGpF0ZATVU

Any ideas? Have you had similar issues?

Edit: Now after the piano has been on for some time the issue just vanished. This is bizarre and I hope I can replicate the problem when I go to the store.

I'm probably bringing the piano back to the store tomorrow but I wanted to ask...

In addition to this, there is a clicking noise when I press and quickly lift my finger off one of the B keys... This is the only one that does it. Is this cause for concern or am I overreacting?

If I was in your shoes, it's not a probably but a definitive that this piano would go back to the shop.

I have never seen this before, but with electronic components, intermittent problems do not tend to just disappear for the better. It might not be today, tomorrow or next week but something like this is bound to come back and probably at an awkward time (i.e. when the return period is over)...do not chance this, take it back.

You have a video to fall on if you cannot replicate this in the shop.

What about that noise I get on B? Not normal for a brand new keyboard, correct?

It does sound like loud click on the return, compared to the next key you played which was practically silent..but a phone recording is hard to rely on getting a good representation of how bad this is.

If it was my piano. I'd be more concerned with the C keys not sounding when pressing the B and concentrate on that being my primary concern and hence the need to return it.

I called the store. They are saying to bring it tomorrow morning while the Yamaha service center is still open so they can check it. Will do that...

And yes all the other keys are silent on return. Not a big deal. Like you said the other problem is troubling and might get worse right after the warranty runs out, which would be bad.

Do I have a choice? I've never done that before, hence the million questions. I think that's the first time in my life where I've needed warranty.

Not sure what the return policy in your country, in US we can return it within certain days.

I'm in the Middle East, might not be so easy. Anyway I'll go tomorrow. See what happens.

Went to the store and they couldn't replicate the problem. However I get to keep this piano until they get new stock in about 2 weeks and they will then deliver and replace with a brand new instrument. Yay.

Why couldn’t they replicate it? Were you unable to demonstrate the issues yourself?

Nature of the intermittent fault beast, Ches. Had one with my P45 (gurgling noise sometimes, when playing certain chords).

It happens randomly. Last night after the guy bought the piano back to my place I sat down to play and some other keys were malfunctioning.

I'm very happy with the customer service tough, so no problem. As long as I get one with no issues.

What happened? Did you get a replacement?

Part exchanged it for something else (for other reasons). Someone else's problem. If it ever returned, that is.
