Korg B1: any comments in comparison to Roland FP10? #2851268

HI,

I am confused whether Korg B1 offers anything superior to Roland FP 10. They are at same price point with B1 allowing up to 3 pedals unlike FP10 allowing at max 1. Korg B1 has natural hammer action. I could not find much reviews of it. Can some one who has used it in comparison to Roland FP 10 or Yamaha P45 kindly share some experience? Is the sound quality better on B1?

Thanks

Korg B1 has no midi/usb if that's a deal breaker for you. Also compare the new casio CDP-S100 with the FP10. I have the Korg D1 which doesn't have speakers, but has a really solid keybed.

I am not worried about mdi/usb. Is the keybed of B1 similar to D1, and better than that of FP10? No casio for me as it has no service centers in my state.

Not trying to confuse you, but something like Musician's Friend's "Gold Coverage" sound quite interesting. We have things similar to that in my country, but coverage rarely exceeds 2 years.

I know most additional "insurance/warranty" plans are considered to be scams, but if I wanted something from a manufacturer who had no service center available locally, I might at least think about it a little.

Just my 2 cents but having owned an FP30 and tested a D1 - my personal preference was the action on the Roland. The Korg had this soft almost squishy feeling when the keys landed on the key-bed and took an instant dislike.

Honestly, at that price range tier, the PH4 action on the Roland is hard to beat. It has it all, triple sensor, escapement, it's weighted just right so it's not too heavy but neither feather light and the ivory feel keys and size are what I enjoyed about the FP-30...

PS if you can find the FP-30 not too far more expensive than the FP10 I see no reason to chose the FP10, which is only better than the 30 in terms of weight and nothing more.

Addendum as I cannot edit the above post anymore:

I noticed the B1 has a different action to the D1 (which has RH3) so might be that it's not the same as I have never tried the B1. In the UK the B1 is £300 vs £500 for the FP30 - it's not all just marketing that makes that difference. The Roland FP-30 really is better spec'd than the B1 - the FP-10 at least has the better action.

I would be shocked if the piano teacher of the OP's son finds the B1 acceptable for taking lessons on, especially if the NH action in the B1 is appreciably worse than the RH3 in the D1.

Thanks everyone. I understand that FP10 is much superior.
