Hello, I need a piano which will last at least 5 years in perfect condition, to attend music school

The piano will be used with extreme care, only at home, but from 3 to 6 hours per day

I don't need Roland FP-30 extra features

So, it is Roland FP-10 vs Korg D1

And my question is:

Do you think Korg's RH3 key action would be more durable than Roland's PHA-4 Standard?
I worry about key noises increasing with time, or keys no longer correctly functioning

PS.: I never had a digital piano before, so I don't know if how durable are they

Greetings

Honestly, to expect a $500-600 digital piano to stand up to 5 years of consistent use for 3 to 6 hours per day and remain in "perfect condition" with no increase in key noises...is not a realistic expectation. I've seen a good number of class piano labs where pianos see 3-6 hours of use per day working just fine after 5 years, but these tend to be non-portable midrange console style models that cost $2,000-2,500 per unit.

If you're attending music school, it's a much better idea to let the practice room pianos take the brunt of use and abuse. Your tuition pays for it. Keeping a cheap digital piano around for fingering work, theory homework, or an occasional late-night cramming session is a fine idea. Most of my piano majors do at this point, but I encourage them to do the bulk of their practicing on the grand pianos in the practice rooms.

I understand

Thanks for your reply

I'll follow your advice, but I'd like to know how long would a Roland FP-10 or Korg D1 last with that kind of use: 3 - 6 hours everyday

Maybe the Korg C1 would be more durable?

I’ve been banging away at my FP30 for 1-4 hours almost everyday for the last 3 years; and it is still going strong. The keys are slightly looser and louder compared to when it was brand new, but nothing significant. I was thinking around year 5/6 I might need to look inside and see if any of the key pads needs to be replaced.

I agree with the advice, that if you have access, let the practice room pianos take the brunt of the work. But realistically, a digital piano in your apartment or next to your bed is going to be your actual workhorse.

FWIW - my sense is, for durability Yamaha and Roland are solid. More having to do with their target markets (education and the professionals) and the feedback they have gotten from those groups in those environments.

It has the same "RH3" action as the D1.

Not to be confused with Kawai's RH III. wink
