Hello!

I'm been hunting for a real piano for like forever (or a year) and stalking this forums at the same time. There was always someone asking the same question I wanted to ask and answers that are not trolling, until now.

This past weekend, I found this beautiful baby grand for sale on facebook at unbelievably affordable price. She was asking for 3200 but would sell for 2600. She showed me the message of another guy that was coming to pick it up for 2600 but got killed in a car accident on the way. sick

I went ahead and look at it. It is looking like new inside out but sounds...not so good. But still way better than those old upright people are asking for a few hundreds but should just go to the fireplace. The Russian lady said it was purchased new for 11k 10 years ago at a piano show from a company call East Coast Piano. The piano has marking indicating it is made in Russian, a Maddision brand (No double d is not a typo.) Said it was played by her kid at 6 lessons, then sit around looking nice for 10 years. Tuned 3 times

Does anyone here have any experience with this brand? I don't think they still exist. Unless nowadays there are piano manufacturers that make expensive piano but don't bother to have a website. Would this be one of those "prototype" that has little worth as a musical instrument? or could this be a steal?

Any input/advance much appreciated!

If the person who was going to buy it got killed on the way, how did he send a message to let them know he was killed?

This sounds like a scam to get high price for a worthless piano.

He did not show up. Apparently, his wife replied a week later on his account. Anyway, the story is not to judge the lady's honesty. The point was that she listed for 3200 but will likely sell for 2600. lol really wanted some opinion on the Piano and the Brand itself.

Never heard of the brand, and can't find anything about it. What length is the piano, from the very front of the keys to the very back of the narrow end? "Baby" grand pianos are seldom satisfactory - a large upright would give you longer strings and a bigger soundboard, and therefore a better dynamic range.

It is a 5 ft. It sounds just ok. Still better than those little spinet or console upright that my local dealers will charge for the same or even a few hundred more.

Larger upright will cost me 1000 more after tax from the dealer.

I can't even get a tech to appraise this Piano so I'm just going to look for something else.

OK, 5 foot is about the limit for a grand piano to sound acceptable. Anything shorter is unlikely to satisfy. Totally agree about spinets or small consoles though. But you might find a large older upright at a good price somewhere.....
