Hi,

I have a kurzweil pc3x which I have had for quite few years. I find that she’s a temperamental machine when it comes to going though a sound system or even a powered speaker. Sounds great through my stage monitors at home but sounds cheap when taken out and about.

Anyone else have this problem with this model or anyone suggest a troubleshoot?

I am at the point of considering selling and going for maybe a Nord Stage 3 or going back to my Yamaha roots if that’s what it takes to get a consistent tone and sound.

Never had one, but always been curious about them. How do you find it for designing your own sounds? Are the old libraries it's compatible with it worthwile?

I read recently a new PC4X version will come out.

Yamaha's hardware sure has some great sounds, hard to go wrong with Yamaha.

I’ve had a Kurzweil Forte for the last 4 years. It’s been the main board in my rig. In many ways it is very similar to the PC3 series. I think this extends to the outputs.
My experience with the Forte has shown it has very hot audio outs.
In the early days with it I had a lot of trouble getting a good clear sound. It was when I bought a digital mixer that the issue of the Kurzweil’s outputs became clear. With the Behringer X18, I have to run the gain trim at -6db in order to avoid clipping. Having the digital mixer really highlighted this is issue because digital clipping sounds horrible. Never got a good sound at home. My setup at home uses a good old analog mixer. Once it’d backed off the gain, the home setup sounded pretty good too!
May be this is your issue too?
