Hi guys! smile

I am looking for an easy-to-use software for my digital piano.
The closest one that I found was Mainstage 3, but unfortunately I don't have a Mac to run it.
I wouldn't consider DAWs because they are too complex to learn and I don't care about the extra functions for recording / music production.
All I need is a software that could create splits/ layer of different sounds (pianos/ strings/ synths/ pads).

Any suggestion will be appreciated! grin

In this context, GigPerformer isn't really a Mainstage equivalent, because it doesn't include any sounds. For a simple self-contained environment, I'm thinking something like Sampletank.

I use Cantabile as a VST host.
It's mainly for live performance, similar to Mainstage.

You can download the trial that contains also a free version (Cantabile Lite) which works fine - with some limitations (no recorder and other non essential stuff).

Look if having VST instrument plugin support - that will tell you.

GigPerformer will do everything that Mainstage does, in my opinion, more efficiently and more intuitively. However, as someone else mentioned, it doesn't come pre loaded with any software so it will end up being much more costly in the long run. It can most definitely host keyscape/omnisphere, etc.

Hello I've been using Cantabile for years starting out with the free version and liked it so much I upgraded to Cantabile Solo. With Solo I can record my vst's and the sounds from my yamaha cp-33 ( that I use as my controller) at the same time. Very inexpensive and customer support is second to none. Brad from Cantabile has never failed to answer any question I had in all the time I've been a user in a very timely manner! I too in the beginning just needed a way to play 2 or more vst's at the same time with the same audio driver but Cantabile turned out to do so much more. You can't go wrong give Cantabile a try.

I know you said you didn't want a DAW but I would serious look at Mixcraft

https://www.acoustica.com/mixcraft/

https://www.acoustica.com/mixcraft/v7/help/virtual-instruments-and-midi-topics.htm and watch these videos especially the forth one. It does what you want and is very easy to set up. YMMV smile

All these years playing and I still consider myself a novice.

If I chose Gig Performer /Cantabile / Camelot which do not include any sounds, where can I find good sound samples to play with?
Like samples of pianos/ strings/ pads/ woodwinds/ synth etc...

SampleTank, EWQL Goliath, Kontakt, HALion, Vir2 Vi.One are some products which come with many instruments.

You can also get TX16Wx SF2 player (free) and a free SF2. Try http://www.sinerj.org/~loyer/GeneralMIDI to compare somme free and not free banks.
