I was set to buy a MP11SE without ever physically playing one, based on reviews and youtube videos, and then I saw it doesn’t even have one Hammond organ patch. The limited sounds are surprising for such a pricey stage piano—-I understand they are great quality (particularly the piano which is arguably the best piano sound in a stage piano) but still pretty unbelievable. the selected sounds are pretty suspect too—-this is a keyboard for a professional level player, and among some of the odd choices, they didn’t include one Hammond organ patch.

Any chance they are planning on adding (or you could add via thumbdrive/usb) more sounds? i saw a youtube video of a guy running a rack module via midi out back into the mp11se. not an ideal option. i will probably buy the mp7se or es8 i guess, but hugely disappointed the flagship kawai stage piano has such a limited selection of sounds

You are right, for some reason MP11SE is severely stripped of subcategories sounds.
So I chose MP7SE instead, it has choirs and other stuff that I like.

I have a Hammond XK3C, so not interested in tonewheel stuff in the piano - but MP7SE has a cool thing there for drawbars as it's own thing. Have not checked it out even, but see if some YT review do that.

MP7SE still has very nice keybed in my view. The thing with MP11SE is the longer wooden keys, I think. So it's deeper chassis for that sake.

It's a piano.

That's Kawai's priority for the MP-11(SE).

(My unofficial understanding.)

You want a cheap good Organ: get a Yamaha Reface YC. Good little gadget. Find a used one for real cheap.

Not sure if it comes with a MIDI cable, but you need to buy this if in case it doesn't come with one:
Yamaha ZP893500 Cable MIDI Breakout

I have a MOTIF XF and MP7SE has superior organ sounds compared to it...

Your next best bet is MP7SE. Gorgeous keyboard, which acts as an extremely capable stage piano and a very intuitive interface for live perforomance.

Novus NV10 is even more piano. And it has 24 organ sounds. AvantGrands also have organ sounds. So I've never accepted those explanations from KJ and PMC, that MP11 missing organ sounds because it's about piano, it's action is for piano, but not organ etc.

+1. This was discussed many times on this forum by me and other users.

You're right, it's market segmentation, little more. Having 1000+ sounds for a hybrid action piano doesn't make much sense, considering the target market. Best to limit the hybrid to a few dozens sounds that doesn't overwhelm the acoustic piano purchaser, and save the plethora of tones for a different audience that isn't pining for the best acoustic grand action available in a digital wink

The fewer sound the piano has, the less likely it is to be called a keyboard! grin

Hello folks,

Yes, it's true that the piano-focussed MP11SE does not feature any drawbar organ sounds. Some customers understand and appreciate this omission, others do not.

If an MP11SE customer really wishes to play drawbar organ sounds from the wooden key action, it's relatively straight-forward to use a sound module connected via MIDI, with the output re-routed into the MP's Line In connectors. My personal suggestion would be to use an iPad running an app such as Galileo Organ.

Kind regards,
James

I like that Japanese guy, but for Motif demos the best to watch is Bert Smorenberg. His Motif Rack demo is just amazing. laugh

the voce organ module will work too (sounds better than the mp7se organ imo)

The organ and the piano both have black and white keys... that's almost where the similarity ends. To me, playing the organ on a piano action feels just about as bad as playing the piano on an organ action!
I bought my MP11se for playing piano & digital piano, have a Yamaha Tyros 5 for arranging, analog synths for real-time controls and a Korg specifically for Hammond B3 sounds & feel. If you're not as much of a fanatic, you can get by with just a basic arranger keyboard for all your non-piano fun.

My suggestion : get a Studiologic Numa Compact 2X as a second tier for your MP11SE and connect them using legacy MIDI. You're not only getting great organ sounds, but also some physical drawbars, AND a semi-weighted keybed. Best of both worlds, really.
I know I have considered it...
Alternatively, you could consider a Roland VR-730 instead of the Numa. Cracking board, but almost double the price of the Numa, though...
In any case, a second tier offers a lot more advantages over a sound module.
Or if you're fine playing organ on a weighted, wooden Grand Feel keybed : use one or other virtual instrument for your organs. Sorted.

I added a Viscount Legend Solo on top of my MP11SE. I can choose to use the MP11SE as lower manual and the Legend as top, or just play one of the two. Viscount also has a module version of the Legend: the Legend Exp. This doesn't have a manual (keybed) but does offer the same features as the other Legend modules and sounds great too.
