Not sure. He had to study special literature one way or another - either in Braille font or aurally. You had a writer Helen Keller, in Russia there was Vasili Eroshenko -  a writer and poet, as well as a linguist who translated the books of Lenin into Japanese.

Still hasn't digested everything from "Line Up" and it was 10 years ago I learned it. No need to transcribe anything else. Love it so much.

yes, you are right. I'm not sure if Lennie knew Braille, but he did listen to books on tape, as a matter of fact he used to listen to Shakespeare at 2x/speed WHILE he practiced, true!
