I'm headed to Summerkeys again this summer for a couple of weeks. It's a music camp for adults up in Maine. I love the whole experience. I'm a veteran camper - I can't believe this will be my 9th year!

Anybody else going anywhere musical this summer?

Summerkeys was a wonderful week for me a few years ago. I encourage anyone to experience it. Loved being assigned to pianos all over the small town for practice. Good hills to climb and the ocean to see. AND I love lighthouses (they are scarce in Colorado). I worked on a Mozart Viennese sonatina all week while I was there and learned a lot. Last week I just pulled that piece out to relearn it. Dust off the cobwebs.

I need to get to Victoria one of these years, but I can't do both Summerkeys and something else - its a nice dilemma to have...

Next week I’m heading across the mountains to Icicle Creek piano retreat, then again in the fall. It keeps me motivated and restores my soul.

I'll be at SummerKeys again in July - my 7th year. I probably should check out Victoria as it's a lot easier for me to get to!

It's the second year I'm looking for some kind of music summer camp. There doesn't seem to be a lot of options out there for adults, in the province. I found 3 camps (I think), which are all somewhat remote considering I don't have a car, and not all of them had programs that interested me. And since it includes food and housing, it gets quite expansive quickly. Considering that I'm still a beginner and that I'm learning slowly, I feel like it would be partly a waste, and I don't really have the budget right now.

So it is a project for later. I'll probably go to a music summer camp in a few years.
For now, I'm simply pursuing lessons during summer. smile

My piano journey from day 1
Started piano on February 2016.
Pieces I'm working on :
- Rameau, Les Sauvages
- Mozart, K545, 1st mov
- Chopin, nocturne op. posth. in C# minor
- Debussy, Golliwog's cakewalk
- Pozzoli, E.R. 427, etude no. 6

I would be interested in one of these camps..i am fortunate my job allows me up to 4-5 weeks of vacation a year. I would like to do one that is a week or less, and within a 4 hour plane ride or car drive from NYC.

Are there any camps that have a higher percentage of adult participants in their 30s or 40s? I notice so many ads for these camps are for folks who are retired or senior citizens, I wouldnt want to be the only camper in a different age bracket..many of the programs I was researching sounded great until they specifically said ‘only for pianists age 18 and under’..

I have attended Rami Bar Niv’s piano camp in Utica NY multiple times and recommend it highly: it is for adults but of course there is no guarantee that any given group will be 40 vs 60 year olds. It has included beginning through advanced pianists, and all have spoken highly about the experience. The group is small as Rami does all of the teaching and each participant has a daily, one hour lesson.

Here is the website link
http://ramisrhapsody.tripod.com/

Rami is a concert pianist, composer and has written an outstanding book on fingering. .
I have no other interest in this camp other than being a repeat participant. He also offers a yearly one in San Francisco.

Summerkeys is "close" to New York - a lot of the teachers come from the New York area. But Lubec is as far down east as you can get in the US and not enter Canada or start swimming to Ireland.

There is a mix of ages, but the people who have the time and money to go to something like this are usually seniors.

I am in Rami's Facebook group so know about his camp in Utica, NY - only reason it doesnt work for me is that its scheduled for June 2019 and that month is particularly extra busy for me work-wise and I dont feel comfortable taking a full week off for that month. July & August are slower months at work and usually when I take 2 weeks vacation, so Summer Keys sounds like the best best - thank you for the recommendation! I am going to look into for one of the August sessions. I really like that they open it up to as many as 16 participants, while I like one on one attention, I don't want to be in such a super small group, I enjoy being a small fish in a bigger pond and just "do my own thing" when it comes to how I structure my free time.

Sonata in Bennington, VT has larger groups - up to around 24 - and 2 different session lengths offered to adults throughout the year except for summer. That would be closer to NY than Summerkeys. This is the camp mentioned by Progman above.
