Hi all,
I have been looking for a next DP to replace my YDP-140. My daughter is taking lesson still early-intermediate.

I never thought shopping DP is like shopping car, need go through the dealership and such. and almost impossible to compare different brand and model side by side. Budget around 3000, and only 2 fit the range, a CA58 and CLP645. I wish CA78 can hit the range but hard to find it sell online, need to check out all the dealers..etc,

CLP-645 price is ok, i checked it out in one of the costco roadshow. But i tried the CA58 in a store, it feel really good. but i love the CLP other bell and whistle, the apps really cool , and it UI seems much better than the Kawai and i think yamaha is more reliable. my YDP-140 has been 8 years, no issue at all.

On the other hand, the CA58, action feel very real to acoustic , well i don't have much experience in acoustic but tried few acoustic piano in the kawai store. and my daughter like it a lot. and the price is about a little more than the CLP-645 Costco price

Thing changed very quick in last 24 hours, i sold my YDP=140 last night to a neighbor and then today I get an offer of CA58 , way lower than i expected, 2500. I know i should take it but still .. somehow i want to try the CLP again and see if i can get better price close to the CA58. the key actin still a concern to me, kawai is light and easier to play but im no sure that will make my daughter has hard time to play in heavy action in acoustic piano.

Do you guys think 2500 for the ca58 is good ? i check price paid sheet, surprised to see no CA58 in there ... confused

Have you considered the P-515? It’s the slab piano version of the CLP-645: same keyboard, same sound engine, same voices. It’s significantly cheaper because you’re not paying for the cabinet.

We prefer a cabinet.. it costs more but P-515 still need to get a stand and bench. CLP-645 also give better speakers and has cover. I think the most important factor is that a cabinet give a piano feel .. P-515 feels like playing on a keyboard , just my opinion.

Your choice of course; just suggesting something that would save you a significant amount of money. I paid £1200 for my P-515; the CLP-645 would have cost me £1900.

Don't know how comparable prices are between Europe and US, but in the Netherlands I paid the equivalent of 2480 USD (incl tax) for the CA-58. Overall very happy with the instrument.

I see prices in Europe are lower than US. at least from the price they list on the site. ie i see a UK site quote the CA58 £1,791.00 that about 2350 USD, that way way lower than we usually see in US online, quote around 3000 USD. and the CLP 645 £1,828.00 ., about 2400 USD.

When I tried both models in store, I felt like CA-58 action indeed felt closer to acoustic (though I don't have much experience with acoustics, tried one or two uprights occasionally), but I didn't like it's sound at all, I thought it was way too bright. CLP-645 sounded much better to my ears and action is a pleasure to play, so I bought it. But if OP don't have complaints about the sound of Kawai, then they should probably take CA-58, I think action there is slightly better.

Don't be fooled by prices found online.
Don't be fooled by the price tag on the piano.
The price is entirely negotiable.

Yes, that's a good price - assuming that the instrument is brand new.

I have 2nd thought after i went to the store again.. there was a ca48 no ca58 , and CLP645. I came to this store few times already, and like the kawai alot, but today i think i paid more attention to it, I kind of prefer the CLP645 key action, it feel heavier but feel solid and i able to control better when play soft. and to my surprise i find CLP645 sound warmer.

It is very different than i played the CA58 in the other store. Does the CA58 sound engine better than CA48? or maybe the store has better showroom that sound better there?

I will try to negotiate CLP645 price tomorrow, hope i can get it closer to the CA58.

Yes, the CA48 utilises the PHI sound engine, while the CA58 utilises the HI-XL sound engine.
HI-XL sounds are more expressive and require a larger amount of sample memory.

I too have settled on the 645, after having tried the CA58, 78 and the 675 and 685 side by side. 635 wins and it isn't the most expensive either!

Congrats on your new piano! Did you opt for the 645 or the 635? It's not 100% clear from your post.

By the way, according to their entry in the Digital Piano Prices Paid thread, it seems that KL NY eventually opted for the CA58.

Kind regards,
James
