Hi,

I'm looking for the best VST programs to run with my digital, Kawai CS11, specifically many piano options, strings, reed instruments etc.
Also, what speakers do you play the VST's through? Do you just listen through headphones?

What do you like, warmer pianos like Bechsteins or chillier ones like Steinways? Are you just looking for backing chords and simple stuff with the other instruments or do you want to work with a modwheel and a computer with them or arrange them more realistically?

I like all sounds. I looked into pianoteq 6 and it has type of piano you could want, but my son showed me Soundiron Emotional Piano and that sounds fantastic as well. I am also wanting string and reed instruments. I just want to play around with sounds and layering. Nothing too fancy.
I'm just wanting to add some excitement back into my practice with many different sounds and creations.

It will be hooked to the midi port in my Kawai CS11 and run through the computer, so I'm sure the sounds will not come through the piano, but through speakers...I'm guessing. This is all new to me. I have been playing an acoustic for 12 years now. I learned on a digital before I purchased my acoustic, but I never really played with the other sounds. Nor did I really experience the joys of owning a digital. I'm excited to learn though!

You'll have a lot of fun experimenting with sounds in the future I'm sure. There are so many different pianos, reeds, strings, etc. available. Also with rare exceptions most developers have regular sales so if the price looks high, just wait a bit, and it'll be more in reach.

You'll find there are a lot of different kinds of piano libraries out there, some are limited and are more for just one sound, performing like a harpsichord more than a piano, these tend to be inexpensive, others have more features and can have a lot of varying dynamics like a real piano. It's a lot of fun listening to the different demonstrations and as you get experienced with the variety of instruments out there, doing some critical listening to learn how a library actually performs before you buy it which saves expense.

I've nearly bought that Soundiron Emotional Piano a few times, its demonstrations sound quite nice. It's sure to go on sale in the future, though it may take till summer months, as they just had a 33% off sale that ended on the 15th.

I use JBL Arena tower speakers to listen to my VSTs. I like the JBL sound, even though I listen to classical. I also have some Sennheiser HD600 headphones for critical listening.

The CS11 already has some 80 different sounds, including strings, though not reeds or brass instruments. How do you like those included?
For classic music you can take a look at Vienna Symphonic Library (https://www.vsl.co.at/en). They have great sounds
The CS11 surely has an audio in connector, so you could hear your vsts through the piano speakers as well
