I'm in the process of buying some more piano music. I want to find some spikey chordal type pieces. I have some examples of similar pieces but I'm looking for something easier than the suggestions. Any suggestions ?

Rach - G minor prelude

Schumann - Novelleten 1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBz7i9gVa20

Listz - Mephisto Waltz 4

Thanks
x

The only pieces I can think of is Schumann's Important Event from Kinderscenen and Nos. 6 and 8 from his Papillons.

Some Schubert 'Moments Musicaux' D780 are I think what you mean by chordal and 'very approachable,'
in particular (in sequence of 'how appropriate'?)
no6 at 16.56 in the link
no 2 at 3.20
no 5 at 14.43 is I guess, but not one I've played through.

oh, and no 3 at 8.58 I think is just nice, but not 'chordal':

Liszt's transcription of Schubert's "Du bist die Ruh'" is full of four-note chords in each hand. The biggest challenge even before getting to the section with chords is that the first verse is left hand alone, melody and accompaniment; a good test of one's voicing skills.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have played no 3 musical moment before which is very good piece. Musical moment 5 is quite an exciting piece and my favourite. I have a book with all the Schubert Impromptu and musical moments. I am learning impromptu 3 at the moment.

What amazing pieces! Seems like a great skill building set of music. That Du bist die Ruh is beautiful also!

I am playing a Rachmaninoff piece at the moment but the book but I was getting cheap scores of amazon and got a very bad version so I am having to buy a better version of it. The recommendation was to buy Henle online. My teacher told me that Boosey and Hawkes is a good option but is expensive.

I am using this oppurtunity to buy some more scores. Melody from op 3 (which my teachers recommendation and my first choice) was unplayable because there as so many wrong notes so I went for Serenade. I'm most likely will be playing Melody after I finish learning the Serenade which is nearly ready.

Melody:

I generally buy a few books so will take the Brahms and Schumann suggestions when I finish Impromtu 3 which may take a while longer. I normally pick with my teacher in the lesson. This is how I pick my pieces now and seems to work better.
