We, Piano Central, have a Little Baldwin Classic grand that needs a new bass bridge. I'm trying to get an average of what the labor on that would be. I have already talked to Schaff about the costs of duplication, I just need the cost of removing the old one and installing the replacement. I'm trying to see if the work is cost effective as it's not a very good piano to begin with. Thanks for any input in the matter.

Graybeard,

Probably in the neighborhood of 8-10 hours or so, assuming everything works out nice. Unfortunately it rarely does. If the bridge is already loose, that's nice. If not, many of us would rout off the top and replace as a cap.

Greybeard, if your piano is like a Classic that I have seen, then there will be no bridge apron, and the bridge is stepped out underneath at the bottom 8 bass notes.

If the bridge is splitting along the pins as so many do, then your best option is to rout off the cap after making a pattern and then glue on a new one. Most of the work can be done outside of the piano before gluing it back on.

That is probably the least destructive way of doing it.

Peter's numbers sound about right.(if all goes well)
