A dark, moody, somber piece. Rachmaninoff revealed to his friend that the inspiration behind this piece was "the sea and the seagulls", represented by the triplets in the left hand and the duplets in the right hand, respectively. Also prominent in the left hand is the Dies Irae chant that Rachmaninoff was obsessed with throughout his life.

Fantastic!! I have heard this piece quite a few times but I never remember being as transfixed/mesmerized by a performance. It's as if your performance made me understand this piece for the first time.

Like pianoloverus, I was transfixed by this performance. The choice of tempo, arched phrasing, sensitive touch and voicing all came together nicely for a truly captivating performance. It doesn't hurt that this is one of my favourite Rach etudes too. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful performance! I'm curious, which algorithm for musicality did you employ? wink

Seriously though - loved the performance. On a side note, is that the built in sound to your Kawai, or are you using a VST?
