"...Allgeyer soldiers an inch and a quarter to the man painted cream, gold and blue, handfuls of hundred-year-old agates soaked in honey that sweetened greatgrandfather tongues long gone to dust, then into sulfuric acid to char the sugar in bands, brown to black, across the stone, deathless piano performances punched on Vorsetzer rolls, ribboned black lingerie, flowered and grape-crested silverware, faced lead-glass decanters, tulip-shaped Jugendstil cups, strings of amber beads . . . so the populations move, across the open meadow, limping, marching, shuffling, carried, hauling along the detritus of an order, a European and bourgeois order they don't yet know is destroyed forever."

My favorite was a post on here that i read when i first started. The person wrote something along the lines of "I find that i lack the fortitude to subject myself to this mental torture long enough to get my fingers warm" or loose it may have been. I dont recall the member or what they were refering to but it just stuck with me.

The amusing thing is that I remember things people do and say that they themselves don't remember. Sometimes this causes problems because they don't want to remember, and naturally fight back against me remember it. I've also had people get creeped out by me remembering stuff about them (it does seem stalkerish, doesn't it? laugh ). But my wife, who has a poor memory herself, uses me as the "community memorybank" and asks me about things that happened to her long ago that she doesn't remember. For example, I remember her ex-BFs before me better than she does. laugh laugh

My wife also has a memory like that....photographic. She actually sees images, even typed images of a person's name on their forehead. She can see someone we met 20 years ago, remember their name and details such as what they were wearing and what we spoke about. It really freaks people out. Too bad she doesn't play piano...would be fairly useful. (Gotta figure out how to utilized that for some profit.)

Even professionals can get freaked out! Once, I was describing to a long ago psychiatrist, the circumstances around my weaning and my father taking away my baby bottle, what I did to merit this (I poked a hole in the presumably plastic bottle with a diaper pin with predictable results), what he said, the arrangement and color of the furniture, where I was standing, what I emotionally felt at the time, etc. My psychiatrist listened and then tried to convince me that I was suffering from FMS. I finally gave in and agreed in order to keep the peace, but I know I remembered all that. I confirm all the time things I remember, including by checking old newspapers.

Now this said, I do regret the emotional memory component of this ability, highlighted above, as it has given me a form of PTSD (ergo psychiatrist). Curious if your wife also has the emotional memory component and if so, if it also has given her PTSD.

No, she may be mentally ill in other ways, but not this way wink. JK. I don't believe there is any emotional attachment to these memories. She's fairly detached, actually.

Fun. Unfortunately this got me looking around the internet, and here's a couple with to whom (I wonder if that's good English) they are attributed:

“When she started to play, Steinway came down personally and rubbed his name off the piano. ”
― Bob Hope
“To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable!”
― Ludwig van Beethoven

Btw, I have a good memory for faces but can't play anything from memory on the piano.

regards
Pete

I’ve seen it in numerous places but never seen it attributed to anyone.
