Hi. Does anybody know if there will be an upgrade to this soon? I am not sure of the product lifecycles in this brand. I was looking to purchase, but wondered if I should hold off. Thanks!

If you would use it now, buy it now. I would expect it to be years before there’s much of an upgrade.

I see no "updates" to the instrument beside dropping native MIDI for USB to host. But Bluetooth MIDI for wireless app support is already built into ES110, so there is no strong need for a new changed model.

I actually prefer having native MIDI + BT MIDI instead of USB to host. The latter can be added with an adapter at any time.

January would be my guess.

However the virus and subsequent lockdowns, supply chain interruptions, factory production line slowdowns, shipping delays, and road freight delays have meant that releases by other manufacturers were delayed about 3 months. So the ES120 might slip into Q2.

Hi Burkey, thank you for your input. I know this is pure speculation (on my part) but I did think along the same lines.

However, the piano store I went to to try out the ES110 was very confident that there would be no replacement through 2021. I'm just heartened by the release of the upper tier models in this range post lockdown, although that cycle was 5 years!

Perhaps I should get whatever is the latest in the NY, Q1, maybe striking a deal to swap at no consequence (aside from the cost difference?) if a new model comes out within 6 months. Or something.

In some jurisdictions the ES520 and ES920 are extremely competitively priced.

E.g. the ES920 in Australia is USD $1,100 + tax.

So it may be worth considering those two modern models in preference to the ES110.

No I most certainly didn't miss that:

It would greatly assist your understanding if you read the date of a post smile

Hint: it is more than 18 months out of date.

On the other hand, I would be surprised if any seller that is showing you a model IN STOCK would say anything but "afaik there will be no updates in the next 12 months"...

@36251, oh dear, I didn't want to cause a spat but to Burkey's point, I did notice that post and wondered if we might be in a different place since April 2019.

@Burkey, thanks for the suggestion. I did think about this. The ES520 where I am is £1000++, so double the price of the ES110 and most certainly out of my budget. It also has features that I would not have any use for unfortunately.

@vagfilm, just lol. Tbh I did have to point out the release date to the person showing me around, he was adamant I was confusing things with the ES100 until I politely asked him to Google it. Let's hope you are right, although the chap did say he was expecting stock of the ES110 right through to April 2021. Anyone with a similar story on the ES8 right before the ES920 came out (to help perpetuate this thought) would be welcome!

Just out of curiosity, may I ask which ES520 features you're referring to, please?

Kind regards,
James

Hi James,

Thanks for your comments, what a privilege.

I am after a basic pianist's DP so I will not need very powerful speakers, USB connectivity, Bluetooth Audio, an OLED display, or lots of voices for example. As my nick suggests, I used to play and want to pick up the discipline again, but without breaking the bank.

If I had the space, environment, and budget, I would quite easily have gone for the KDP110 before thinking about upgrading.

Id value the time NOW playing on whatever piano model is currently being made than getting into the whole 'iphone' upgrade cycle speculation and letting that dictate your approach to the instrument

its always nice to have the latest hardware and I certainly understand the concern about being 'left with the bag' but really these are musical instruments and if you do get an ES110 and they come out with the ES120 (which IMO they won't because the 110 was already the last of its 'class' to get updated) you would have picked up playing any way and it wouldn't really matter...

Imo if any of the entry level DPs that id expect EOL soon is the Roland FP30 based on age. However judging by the current market introducing a new model wouldn't benefit Roland now since they are having issues producing the current model as is. Good luck

The ES110 is highly regarded as a musical instrument.

It will serve you well for playing piano music.

That is really all that matters.

If they come out with an upgrade it will not be fantastically better than the ES110.

If may have a few modifications but the sound and playability may not change much.

If you play to an audience, they don't care what instrument you have .... only how well you play it.

Take the leap and enjoy.
