I got this DP in mid December of 2016. I played 2-3 hours a day for 16 months. Stopped playing for 9 months and got heavily into acoustic guitar, and started playing again a few months ago.

I just noticed A above high C is unusually loud 30% of the time, and velocity events and note-off events are higher than adjoining keys. Luckily, I live less than 2 miles from a Roland authorized repair facility. Unfortunately, their turnaround is 4 - 6 weeks. It will be covered under warranty. frown

Roland FP-90; Pianoteq 6 + many add-ons; 2 Yamaha HS8s; ATH-M50X and Samson SR850 headphones; Xenyx Q802USB interface. 2; I make a living playing a Yamaha PSR-S970 with FBT Maxx 2a's, Crowne Headset Mic. I also play guitar.

Ask them nicely to furnish you with a replacement dp whilst it's being sorted. You might have to accept a lesser piano, but . . . better than nothing!

I wonder, do they need the DP for that length of time? Or are they waiting for replacement parts?

My Roland had a key-bed replaced last year and that was the turnaround only because the key-bed had to come from Japan apparently...however as mine is a furniture cabinet style DP it stayed put and had an onsite engineer...not sure if that can apply to you?

This problem is often caused by a worn or dirty or defective contact pad. It's a relatively simple fix. Why should it take 4 to 6 weeks? That seems odd.

The guys at this repair facility have known me for years and take great care of me. They repair gear for superstar acts coming through Chicago, so they know their stuff. But they're busy. It will probably be two weeks to look at it, and if it just needs to be cleaned that would be done immediately. If it's parts ...

Of course, they don't lend digital pianos out - strictly repair. Fortunately, I have a 61 key arranger and 4 guitars to play until my baby comes home.

The FP-90 is a great controller. For a pop musician, I could never see needing anything better. The pianos sound kind of crappy though IMO - so I just play through the computer. Pianoteq. Hey! This thread is not the place to diss Pianoteq!

Keyboard fixed under warranty. It must not have needed parts. Picking up today.

Beakybird you should try and tweak a little bit your piano sounds, since you invested in a product which uses modeling as well. For concert grand piano that you have, just play a little bit with brilliance and also with the soundboard under piano designer settings, maybe you will find something to fit you and just be able to turn on and play laugh

Criticism is welcomed since it helps improving and going forward.

It turns out that the FP-90 wasn't fully under warranty. I thought that in the USA, it was a 5 year warranty, but it's 3 years parts, 2 years labor. But they're so nice at this repair facility, it's called Deltronics in Woodridge, Illinois.

The keyboard just needed a new contact strip which was $5.50 - not worth contacting Roland about, and they did the labor for free and told me it was all free. I'll have to bring them some Godiva chocolates.

Tudor33sud, I keep my desktop on all the time, and Pianoteq is always on. Whenever I turn on my keyboard, I hear the MIDI connection sound, and Pianoteq just plays. The onboard piano sound might be tweakable, but I really hear something artificial that I don't think I can get rid of. It's way better than a crappy sample, but quite inferior to Pianoteq or a quality sample. It's definitely good enough that if someone played a heartfelt song, I would get into it without my critical faculties coming into play.
