It's the same way with recording studios. Most of them have cats. Many have dogs. I think it is more of an animal lover in music.
I have cats because they are easy to take care of. An apartment isn't great for a dog. I love animals. I am nuts about dog's. Wasn't nuts about cats until one I recently got. She is very interactive. She talks to me. She's an absolute sweetheart.

I play the piano and I have cats. Therefore all piano players have cats. My logic is flawless. I am also a mathematician - my specialty is mathematical logic. So what I just said must be correct.

This is the first time i've heard of pianists liking cats being common, but it is certainly true for me! I love cats so much. You can stare at their little perfectly framed faces for hours and laugh at the IDGAF look they always seem to have. And their personality shines in that they don't offer their "warmth" all the time or as easily as other animals.

I love cats but we can't have one because I'm allergic.

I never liked cats until I had one of my own, and now I have two. One especially seems to enjoy and appreciate music, but they both will come to the room where I am playing (one likes to be on the bench with me). The exception is when I play Hanon exercises, which makes one of my cats run away. >^..^<

I am a working dog person myself, and we always had (and have) dogs. We finally got a cat this year and guess what, I started piano lessons! It must've happened because of some cat magic and I had no idea smile My teacher also has a lovely cat named after a composer smile

All cats fit on a piano, and there's still room for a glass of beer, plus you don't lose your view. A Great Dane is less suitable. Besides, try lifting a Great Dane or a St. Bernhard. That could ruin your back.

It's simple, really. Cats are awesome. Piano is awesome. Smart people like cats and piano. This is why they go together!

Sometimes cats walk on the piano keyboard and give me new exciting ideas. )

Most pianists have hearts and feelings, maybe they understand cats more than others.

Cats keep mice out of the action. Also, on a typically unrelated note, when I was a kid taking lessons we had a cat who would climb up on the bench next to me. Once I would start practicing literature (not scales, arpeggios or Hanon but real pieces of music) if I stopped he would swat me with a soft paw (no claws out) to get me to resume playing. I have 1.5 dogs now, but I will never forget that cat. Maybe a cat in the future? My big dog would be OK with that, she's mellow (STD poodle): the little one? No.

Practice makes permanent. CORRECT practice makes perfect.

btw...my cats are not allowed on my pianos...

I would agree with this as well. We own a Siamese cat and my wife loves her independence. She doesn't even need to be carried out if she wants to play, as we have installed a cat door, a recent home feature that I definitely love, due to the convenience it provides for our cat to come and go as she please.

Hi. For the last 8 years i have had a female cat and yesterday in the morning i found it dead outside probably after some kind of bird attack and now i am devastated. We had spent so many time together and she loved me so much that just an eye contact was able to comunicate so many things between us. I have been crying and barely can eat. Its not just a cat it was part of me and i can feel dead inside of me. There is no much more i can say. But those of you who have cats oh man enjoy their company and never treat thene as if the things they do make no sense. They are smart and their company is such a blessing.
Live must keep going on but now i almost am going crazy. Just 2 days ago she was there waiting for me, running around, looking at me with those deep eyes. It's going to be a very sad autumn this year for me.
Many people will say it was just a cat. I myself am trying to convence myself that it was just a cat. Then i look around the places she used to be, to sit, eat, run, tears come down my face.
I hope soon this pain will cease. I am no strong enough to endure it for a long time.
Thanks for reading. I know there is out there people with real problems that make mine a ridiculous thing. I intellectually know it but anyway my body refuses to accept it.

I play piano and don't like cats.
So, what the OP stated is not true.

PianistsWithKittens on twitter contains a lot of valuable info regarding pianists and kittens.

I know Ivo Pogorelich has a little white dog called Mia that he seems to take everywhere.
