It's Fun to Play the Piano ... Please Pass It On!
This music arose in Europe and is classically based as opposed to main stream rock based on blues.
I have to vehemently disagree with the statement that progressive rock is classically based.
Its is definitely based on the Western tradition of music teaching that is founded on the music theory and the written music. Those are the two main components that distinguish Western music schools from pretty much every other musical tradition. Everywhere else around the world the music teaching was founded on the students simply imitating the teachers and if any forms of written music existed they were rather primitive.
But in terms of musical inspiration progressive rock pretty much incorporated influences from every other culture. What it added was the musical-theoretic tools and means to give those far-flung influences the cohesive structure.
Similar specious argument can be made that the Arab music is "classically based". Just take a look at two samples of keyboard instruments designed to perform the Arabic music.
Even from afar one can recognize a distinctive small embedded one octave keyboard with 7 whites and 5 blacks. That is the extent of influence: Arab musicians got a free ride on the Western musical theory & technology. They used it to rapidly retune their instruments into scales with 3/4 steps in addition to the half-steps and full-steps prevailing in the Western music.
But using the musical tools from a particular tradition doesn't mean that the whole music genre is based on that tradition.
Edit: Sorry for late posting. That was one of the messages that I had stuck in a computer that required fixes to get it back to work.

Since one of my passions besides playing piano is listening and dancing to Latin music, it only made sense that I would choose a name that reflected this.
Montuno has multiple meanings, maybe the most well known is from son montuno, a style of son music. But there is also the montuno piano, the (mostly North-American) term for the ostinato piano in salsa/Latin music. Montuno is also known as guajeo and, in Cuban timba music, as timbao.
Given my love of timba I probably should have chosen timbao as user name, but I love the word montuno, so ...

One "later" example is a Norwegian band that's not very well known outside of Norway. They were basically a bunch of conservatory students who also happened to love metal and so they started a band. The singer is one of the most amazing sopranos I know (and happens to be a former classmate of my best friend, who also studied at the conservatory until an illness partly ruined her voice):
I'd like to see this group get a nice big budget to do the Ring.... ;-)

Der Ring des Nibelungen? Wagner? If so, I agree. The lead singer would be a nice Brünnhilde.

Yes -- there have been so many really odd approaches to it that this would even be closer to .... "traditional" ... ?
Not thinking of the Copenhagen Ring are you? LOL
She would struggle a bit with Brünnhilde, since the role is a full dramatic soprano fach, and she appears to have a soubrette voice.

Dictionary.com defines blague as pretentious but empty talk; nonsense. It's also the title of William Gaddis' first book 'The Recognitions' at its conception and that's where I took my inspiration from. Hopefully you won't see me as embodying the former as well!
My brother-in-law (a person that I love. I'm not close to much people in my family, but I share a lot with my brother-in-law and I always enjoy time with him) is a big fan of prog music too. He never introduced me to it, though, so I don't really know what it is.
When I'm not listening to classical, I'm mostly into metal. Particularly power metal and symphonic metal (I'm not a fan of the grunting, so death metal is not my thing). Epica is the band I've listen to the most. One of their piece sounds like Pirate of the Carrabean soundtrack.
I don't listen to much metal, but do love Metallica's Black Album.
So does VK.
The Spinal Tab Black album is the one cmb.

That's certainly one -- or another one. I know I saw one that cheaped out and used tea candles for the magic fire. Another had the three Rheinmaidens each in her own giant fish bowl -- and they pulled the plug and drained them at the end....
That was definitely an ambitious start! Kudos for pulling it off, too! And using a bivvy ledge? I mean, I'm sure they're safe, but I'd still never be comfortable enough to sleep in one. You've got some courage! And a sport bike crash, too? I'm starting to feel like a less brave version of you: it took me two minor crashes to give mine up, but I did. I'll stick with my super-cautious flavor of climbing for a bit longer... at least there I don't have to worry too much about other drivers! Thanks for sharing your stories

funny thing. friend and I were trying to do a 25+ pitch face in one long day. but the party on the route ahead of us was going slow and had a bivvy w/ a ledge. so we stopped for an early lunch to allow the other party to "slowly" clear their bivvy which had been nicely situated under a 3 ft roof. My friend was leading the roof and he gets up to where they were and I hear a "HOLY SH*T!!!!" I'm belaying from below, so can't really see what he is freaked about. He belays me up to the roof and I take a look expecting to see that the previous party had overbolted the roof to protect their bivvy. Nope. There, pounded into the crack on the inner corner of the roof were three of the mangiest looking, soft-iron pitons that look like they were just waiting to be cleaned, from maybe the 70's - a ring piton and 2 knifeblades - not as rusted as one might expect since they were sheltered from the elements, but still! Then it was my turn to say "HOLY SH*T!!!!" That party had spent a night hanging from something that had no right to even hold them up. Talk about dumb luck
So yes, nothing wrong with a good bivvy ledge, but they are only as good as what they're hung on!
(And yes, after I got my bivvy ledge, it was one of our tasks to always climb fast enough not to ever have to use it! )

Forget it about the link! I just found it. It helps when you figure out that Google automatically change your search from "pinano discord channel" to "piano discord channel".
OK. I guess you found it. In case anyone else is looking for the Discord pinano server in the future, it's here. And video recordings of the previous Discord biweekly recitals are here. As I announced here, Discord just hosted an Internet piano competition. It'll be interesting to see the entries.
Yes I found it ok, and registered, then clicked my confirmation email to enter the site, but My stupid Apple Mac says it cannot find the server.

This is after you installed the Discord App on your Mac from here: https://discordapp.com ? And then you clicked this link here: https://discordapp.com/invite/3q3gWuD ? The Discord app still couldn't find the site? Because the Discord app should automatically find the site.
Can you cut and past the exact error message and where the Discord app tried to go on your Mac? It would be interesting to see where it thinks it can't go.

Related entirely to the reason I first joined the board, after a google search in a quest to solve my pianism issue--"Why don't my fingers fit between the black keys!? Has someone made a mistake when designing a piano!? Or am I a mutant!?" Tried (once) to change the name to something cleverer and bongo-related (don't ask), but was roundly ignored by Frank, so left it. Nothing wrong with my fingers, actually...in perfect proportion to a six foot slim fella...piano keybed was designed by an asylum escapee...
