Good morning everyone, I go straight to the problem.
I purchased two Adam t7v monitors and now I find myself having to take the cable to connect them to my keyboard, but I don't know what to take.
I read the thread in question: https://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthre...-lineout-to-balanced-xlr-speaker-in.html but in the end I understood little or nothing.
From what I understand, my monitors do not have an RCA output so I have to use a XLR-jack connector (correct me if I'm wrong).
What I can't understand is if I have to take a balanced or unbalanced cable.
According to when reported on the kawai website, 1/4 ″ unbalanced outputs what kind of cable does it require? unbalanced or balanced?
The monitors are practically attached to the keyboard, so no more than 1-2 meters in length.

Sorry for my English, and thanks to those who will help me.

I recently purchased a pair of T7V monitors. They do have unbalanced RCA inputs.
There's a switch on the back of the monitor that let's you choose which input is active, balanced vs. unbalanced.
If you use the RCA unbalanced input be sure to flip the switch to that position.

As for the output from your keyboard ...
You didn't say what keyboard you have. Many (or most?) have outputs on a pair of unbalanced 1/4" phone jacks.

If that's what yours has then either:

(a) Get a pair of cables with 1/4" phone plug on one end and RCA plug on the other, like this:

or
(b) Get a pair of cables with RCA plugs on both ends, like this:

... and add a 1/4"-to-RCA adapter on the piano end of each cable, like this:

I have a kawai mp7se. Who gave me the monitors, advised me of XLR-jack cables (which I haven't picked up yet).
Can I ask you why you recommend RCA cables?

Why? Because you probably don't have balanced outputs on the keyboard.

Perhaps I'm wrong. If the outputs are balanced then use balanced XLR cables.

The back of your mp7se shows OUTPUT as 1/4 inch jacks.

Your speakers can take either RCA or XLR inputs.

So, choice A. from Mac will be fine.

ok, I'll take the RCA-jack cables as suggested by Mac. I just wondered if the XLRs were superior as a signal quality or something like that.

FWIW (I don't want to add to the confusion, and this repeats previous information):

The MP7se spec says:

Quote
Output: ¼” LINE OUT [unbalanced] (L/MONO, R)

That's perfectly clear:

. . . One end of each cable must be a 1/4" "TR" (tip-ring) plug.

The Adam T7V specs (from B&H) say:

Quote
Input Connectors: Analog: XLR, RCA

That's ambiguous (for you) -- you have a choice of input connectors for the monitors.

But (as pointed out above), you don't have a _balanced output_ on the MP7se, and a _balanced_ signal is what is usually sent through an XLR plug.

. . . so the other end of each cable should be an RCA "phono plug",

That's MacMacMac's suggestion (a).

ok, thanks for the answers. Is there any setting to do or just plug in the cable and play?

Is the active zone (e.g. MAIN) volume also set to maximum?

If so, no, this is not normal.

Kind regards,
James
