Hi everyone! I’m new here and this is my first post. I hope someone can help me solve this mystery!

I bought the Casio Privia PX-735 several years ago and didn’t use it at all. I tested the piano upon assembly and knew it worked then but didn’t test the headphone jacks. Then life happened...and it ended up sitting in my living room and moved house with me twice.

Recently, I decided to start playing again and plugged in 2 different headphones and neither of them worked.

The first headphone I used was my Sony WH1000XM3 noise cancelling headphone that I recently got. It felt like the plug fit properly but it did not cut the speakers out nor did I hear sound through the headphones.

The second headphone I tried was an older set of earbuds I got with my old Samsung smartphone. When I plugged this in, and if I held the plug snug up into the hole, it would cut off the speaker sound but still no sound coming through the headphones.

My 2 suspects right now are that there’s dust up the hole or the headphone plugs just don’t fit properly for this model of DP. So I ordered an audio extension cord from Amazon just to try but it hasn’t arrived yet. In the meantime, does anyone have experience with the Casio Privia headphone jacks? Is there something I’m missing? Do I need to buy special headphones?

I’d really like to start learning/practicing without having to buy a new DP!

The 735 has two headphone jacks, try to multiple times plugging and unplugging in both to get the contacts going.

I already did the in out, in out several times with both headphones, but no harm in trying more. Thanks!

99% it is mechanical problem. If you have some deoxit or similar you can carefully spray it inside the jacks. Did you try to wiggle it when it was in to see if the sound from speakers get interrupted?
The casios inside are like they were made in 1980 with the new chip PCB neatly fitted on an old board... cost cutting, it won't surprise me if the jacks don't work.

Yes, with the earbuds, I wiggled it and that does cut off the sounds from the speakers. But even so, the piano sounds don’t come through the headphones. I’m thinking of sticking a GUM soft picks in there and wiggling it around and see if that changes anything.

Thanks for mentioning deoxit. I’m not handy and don’t even know that kind of product existed! Now I know! I’ll order a bottle off Amazon if the above doesn’t work.

I’ll keep you posted!
