Good afternoon folks,

Kawai Japan has issued software updates for the MP11SE and MP7SE stage pianos.

This recommended v1.03 update reduces noise that could occur when playing piano sounds with pianissimo, removes the "pop" noise that could occur when changing the SUB3 zone EFX (MP7SE only), and also improves the keyboard's key switch detection.

The full MP11SE and MP7SE changelogs are listed below.

MP11SE changelog:
Quote
V1.03 (February 2019)
– Improved: Removed slight reverb noise which could occur when a piano sound was played with pianissimo in rare cases.
– Improved: Reliability of keyboard action key switch detection.

V1.02 (December 2017)
– Changed: Master EQ System Exclusive value changed from On=01h to On=40h.
– Improved: Changing SETUPs with different EFX parameters should be smoother in some cases.
– Improved: When storing a SETUP, the currently selected (displayed) SOUND will be used as the default name.
– Improved: The centre/left pedal of the Kawai GFP-3 triple pedal unit can now send progressive values (useful for EFX).

V1.01 (August 2017)
- First production version.

V1.02 (December 2017)
– Changed: Master EQ System Exclusive value changed from On=01h to On=40h.
– Fixed: MIDI would not transmit in BOTH mode if a sound without the Minimum Touch parameter was selected.
– Improved: Changing SETUPs with different EFX parameters should be smoother in some cases.

- First production version.

These software updates and update instructions can be downloaded directly from the Kawai Global website via the following URL:

http://www.kawai-global.com/news/mp11se-mp7se-update-v103/

MP11SE and MP7SE owners are encouraged to update their instruments to use this latest software version.
We also recommend that users backup any custom settings, SOUNDs, SETUPs, etc. before applying the update.

Note that Kawai software updates are cumulative, i.e. the v1.03 update includes the fixes and improvements provided with all previous versions.

That's all for now - please feel free to post your feedback in this thread.

Cheers,
James

KJames,

I've never noticed any the issue with reverb noise in ppp ... but sure do appreciate Kawai's interest keeping the MP series firmware fresh. Thanks ... always nice to feel the love!

Ciao, OneWatt

Hi James,

Thanks a lot for the heads up, I just installed the new firmware on my MP7SE.

If I may, I would kindly like to suggest for the behaviour of the metronome not functioning during overdub recordings to be addressed in a future firmware update.
It would surely help overdubbing over unconventional and classical pieces!

Many thanks
Luca

P.s.
I'm having a lot of fun with my instrument, I love the fingers sound connection.

Hello varignet,

Thank you for your reply. I'm glad to hear that the update was successful.

I recall that we have discussed this topic in the past, however I don't believe there is a strong demand to change this behaviour.

Kind regards,
James

You're correct, well that's a shame. Here's my reasoning:

With the recorder and metronome both turned on, the metronome plays the tempo during recording.

On a second recording, during overdub, leaving the metronome on doesn't play the tempo, although one would expect to.

Wouldn't it make sense to have the metronome playing tempo when enabled (and not when disabled) and by doing so let the user decide?

Just my 2 cents
Thanks
Luca

How would the piano synchronize the metronome with the playback of the recording that you are overdubbing? That may be possible if the recording was a MIDI recording (possibly?) but I don't see how that would work if the recording was an MP3/WAV recording that you are overdubbing. Or am I overlooking something?

I used to be a computer programmer in my first life and I can tell you that the only way to do that would be to include the metronome "sound" somewhere in the original recording and then activate it IF the user wishes during overdub.

Probably could be done …. somehow …. but unless there is a great demand for it …. probably not something to delve into.

Usually the "pulse" you hear when the music is playing is enough to indicate the beat and a metronome would be totally unnecessary.

I think you’re overthinking it.

please note im not suggesting to record the metronome, just play the tempo when the option is enabled. i’m now starting to think there might be a big misunderstanding about what i’m suggesting.

It’s actually very simple and the mp7se does that already by playing tempo during recording.
During overdubs it plays tempo for the first four beats before muting the metronome.

It just needs to continue playing tempo based on the specified bpm and based on whether the metronome is on or off. Unless missing something it seems to me trivial to fix.

and most importantly it wouldn’t change the existing behaviour as users can freely turn the metronome on and off at will

Regarding being totally unnecessary I feel it’s open to personal opinion and I disagree, sometimes listening to the tempo whilst recording helps.
