Regardless, I have a strong distaste for Amazon.

This said, consider though that the Amazon you experience in Italy might be different from a customer service and policy perspective than the Amazon one experiences in the US and other locations. I have experienced this difference myself as I've ordered items from Amazon.de for our flat in Amsterdam (Amazon.nl being next to useless laugh ) as well as from Amazon.com for this flat in Washington DC, and I've also dealt with customer service with both, and it's really as if they are different companies, except for the name and look of the website.

But I guess they don't. So my rule is: I only buy items that are sold by amazon. No third-party sellers for me.

Tbh I've always been happy with Amazon and their sellers; their returns policy has shaken up the whole industry, and delivery services have much improved, too.
Maybe they're a victim of their own success? Kinda breeds it's own arrogance, if that's the right word . . .

So, did you go for it? The 598s are great, even if they're discontinued. They've outlasted 2 DPs, and do the job for slabs, hybrids, and VSTs alike. I think you'll like em.

Same here. I find that Amazon sellers are so scared of negative reviews that they bend over backwards to address issues with products (which I occasionally have from the clearly China-stenciled commodity items). And if the seller doesn't respond, Amazon itself makes returns/refunds painless. Amazon generally isn't a good site to buy your DP from, but it's great for many other items.

Since Amazon played me up, I went to Thomman (incognito) and got the 599 model for even less. I fear it may be configured to Germanic lug-holes . . . . I rather think that neither my own ears or the rest of me conforms to EU directives . . . .

As an avid amazon shopper I find the idea that amazon will adjust your price higher as soon as you going to buy a complete hogwash. Yes the price may get adjusted from time to time but it is not because of someones browsing - it is easy to verified that the price changes are for everyone not just you. Also the prices go down as well. I see them in my wish list all the time.
Even if I don't have prime I always click Prime in the sorting so I will see only things that are shipped from amazon warehouse. If they are shipped from someone else there may be surprises on the way - for example here in canada it is not clear that a seller may be in US which means there could be some other fees involved. Or the seller may be from china which will take forever.
In all my dealings with amazon it was AAA experience - if there was any issue it was sorted within minutes with online message. I am kind of impressed.

Never had a problem with Amazon or with their third party dealers. I have tracked articles from time to time and seen price fluctuations, but not in the very short term and not only upwards. I've sometimes received price change alerts about things I've put in the basket and forgotten about. Sometimes the item has gone up in price but more often, it's gone down. In any case it looks like a useful information facility to me - nothing more.

The feedback and reviews are another matter. A lot of them look like junk - it's hard to tell. So the star ratings are almost meaningless until that's sorted out. It probably affects no name budget items mostly - I wouldn't have thought it would affect the likes of Yamaha, Roland, Sony etc. so much.

No politics? Mention of the superwealthy machine's (legal!) methods of getting wealthier is politics, surely. I blame the OP...that Peter always was a troublemaker. Boatrocker. grin

One simply HAS to push boundaries, you know. (snort snort) Otherwise nothing changes; all we get is "same old same old . . "
You wouldn't want that, would you? Diversification is the new Apartheid . . .we must all accept pianos in different colours, not just black or white, by law!

Well I think Amazon is generally great, although of course if you're buying something fairly expensive you should also check out the prices elsewhere. Most of the time Amazon is cheapest or at least close enough to make the it worth going with them for the convenience and easy returns.

For small items under the £20 cut-off for free postage, if I'm not buying anything else, eBay is often cheaper. And for big-ticket items like a DP it's probably preferable to buy from your local retailers if you have them, both because you've used their showrooms and for better post-purchase support.

I'm not really impressed by Prime since, as pointed out earlier, everything eligible for Prime tends to cost more than the cheapest options on the site, negating any free postage benefit. And I feel like I'm paying for extraneous media services that I don't want.

The reviews are really helpful, if they're genuine. It's usually not too hard to tell which ones are real. But I agree that they've become overwhelmed by fake reviews, or ones done by reviewers who recieve the items for free or a at a big discount, creating a conflict of interest. This is annoying as they surely have the AI to easily demote or hide them.

As for price fluctuations - I've never seen evidence that it's tailored on Amazon. And these online price-trackers should ensure that it's not the case. However what I have seen is that on eBay, where prices can vary widely for different listings of the same thing, the items that are shown depend on your identity. Once, I'd found something that my dad needed, then when he logged in and did the exact same search, it didn't show the items I'd identified, only more epensive ones. I wouldn't rule out similar shenanigans on Amazon, if they present more expensive items for a particular search, or if you're browsing a category, but I'd think it's less likely than eBay since the same items are generally grouped together under the same listing on Amazon.

Yet another PW thread steering way off course. That was my fault so apologies.

Regardless, it was interesting to how popular Amazon is for some US and European PW members.

I just looked at the price of said 'phones on Amazon now. They're back to £133.71, free delivery. They were £170 last night. I've already ordered 'em from Thommans for £132 from Germany.
Hope they arrive before Mar 31 . . . .
