All these years playing and I still consider myself a novice.

Depends on whether it’s the white one or the black one.

Did Ray Charles worry about this?
Did Stevie Wonder wonder?

It’s not just a ray. It’s all the UV rays that make wonders with the piano.

There are plenty of proper covers to protect the piano, if that is what you want.

https://www.amazon.com/piano-keyboard-cover/s?k=piano+keyboard+cover (other vendors are available)

With my Roland RD 700 NX I got a "proper" cover for it. After a very short time, literally a couple of weeks or so, I noticed that it had damaged the 9 silver topped knobs to the four equalizer and five lower row of controls by wearing the silver coating off so that they have an ugly grey spot on them now.

I was a bit unhappy about using it anyway because it also applied downwards pressure to the potentiometers, which I didn't like.

I immediately went back to my default protection of an old pair of (hate to say it but dark) trousers that had given years of good service. (Notice, many of the commercially available covers are also dark)

Since then I have had a custom cover made for the 700 and the trousers are back on my RD300s, (and very smart they look too.)

Why spend the money if you don't need to?

By the way, I was disappionted that Roland had reverted to rotary controls as opposed to the sliders on the RD 300s, but all manufacturers now seem to use rotary controls and any full cover will apply pressure to them, so that is why I wouldn't personally, use one.

My initial impression in this thread was that the OP was seeking protection against sunlight for the piano body, not the keys.

Maybe that's the wrong view?

He hasn't specifically mentioned, I just assumed he is covering the whole piano, which I don't do.

I use a (new) paint brush to dust the body.

Yeah, right now I'm covering the entire DP with a black dust cover I bought on Amazon. Lol at the various replies. I get it. I'm being over-overprotective.

One pillow case, opened up to make sheet the right size to cover top and front--anywhere the sun hits, in my situation.
Lorez, if you're using a black dustcover it will keep the sun's light from getting to the DP (so key yellowing not a concern) but it most definitely will heat up. Thermodynamics law says so.
My replies have been to address what you asked in your OP post. And that's my last on that.

EDIT--No it's not--I nearly got caught with that. Didn't say I'm dumb, or it means I'm dumb, as your reply (cunningly) implied. I said "doesn't mean I'm dumb compared to you." Meaning we may both be dumb, but I don't necessarily have to be the dumber of us. That is my last.

I always keep the foam type covering sheet that came with the piano and use that as well- it is looser than getting spmething that strecthes over the piano. Its more dust than sunlight I worry about as well

(Sorry for the dupe, I should have posted this here.)

Choice of thousands of gorgeous keyboard covers of any style and taste? Table cloths! I’ve got a classic cotton restaurant-checkered one now, but I may switch to something more stylish for springtime. I feel like I’m starting a magic act every time I whisk it off.

Lorez, just put it in the case, that should protect it. I have used Gator cases. A black sheet over it should work if you do not want to place it in the case. Its portable, just move it out of the sun.

I suppose Lorez might have expected something like this, with a question like that....?
"Close the curtains." (you won't have thought of that.)
"Put it in its case." (you won't have thought of that).
"Put a cloth on it." (you won't have thought of that).
"Move it away from the window." (you won't have thought of that).

That's it...definitely finished now. blush

DFSRN, mine is attached to its wooden stand. I’m already using a black dust fabric cover so I guess that’s it?

I have a clavinova, I understand it is not easy to move. Did you consider a blanket over it? That would be thick and may protect it more. I have vertical blinds and adjust them so the sun does not come in the room. For my acoustic I put it on a wall that does not get the sun. The room is arranged around the piano.

Sorry for the delay in my reply, been some busy days. No, I didn’t. I’ll try with a blanket. Thanks.
