Recently bought second hand upright broadwood piano. However the height from floor to top of piano keys only 26 1/2 inches. Whilst reviewing the piano before I decided to buy this was never mentioned. Silly me I thought all acoustic uprights were standard. Being so low giving me back ache. Luckily only paid £400 as a temporary buy until I become better player. Aged 57. Playing for 2 years finished grade 4 and now started learning Beethoven Sonata 14 1st movement. How can I ensure I don't make the same mistake in the future and any advice in the interim.

Thanking you

the keys on your upright are right on, or quite close, to the conventional height. most have casters raising them a bit from the floor - - does yours ? that would make a considerable difference. find a different height to sit ; your forearms and elbow should be at approximately the same level as the keys. some individuals prefer a bit higher or lower.
