i'm a music student

working on being a composer

feel like i'm not getting it.

i have something i'm writing now

but have a sense that i'm still missing the point.

i listen to john cage, bela bartok, charles ives, etc.

so i'm writing in 20th century styles

need some help structuring

making material flow, creating cohesion in the piece

my brain is too sporadic

preview of my score below (sibelius is the software)

writing for 2 saxes &&& a guitar

can't write for more than 3 instruments (this is fer a class assignment)

A rendering from Sibelius would be helpful. There are some interesting harmonies in there, but it's very hard to hear this style of music in your head. You start with the alto below the tenor which makes reading at the piano a bit more complicated and that's about the point I think why not just export the audio and let us hear it. It's been a long time since I've been in an academic environment. What techniques are you trying to use in this piece? What are some of the musical motives or concepts that are important to you? What is the "Why" of this piece? For me composing is arduous and the why becomes the reason I don't stop writing.
