Anyone have experience using the Neuros, Edirol, or M-Audio recorders? Any thoughts on them?

I have an Edirol, which works reasonably well, although it chews up batteries at a pretty fast rate (I use rechargables). I probably need to put together an outboard battery supply with D cells, or somesuch.

I like analogue recordings. I bought a little Nagra off eBay, and this delivers very high quality when paired with a good mic. I then feed it into a Mac via Cubase if I want to print a CD.

Currently playing 2017 C212 with carbon fibre soundboard, WNG action. Working on Bach, Beethoven, Grieg mainly.

Hi Maximus,

Exactly what kind of recordig devices are they? Are they significantly better than, say, a minidisc recorder???

C5- I don't know if theyre better, but id prefer DAT and other digital recording to minidisc just for convenience.

Palindrome-
What kind of Edirol do you have?

I'm asking because I'm planning on making a purchase for one of these so I can record all my small performances and masterclasses beginning this summer. I currently own a large roland workstation with some studio condenser mics which gives me a nice "home recording studio" which I use for alot of non-classical music, but this set up is quite cumbersome, and I'm obviously not gonna bring it to festivals with me.

Anyway, the only info I can go on are online reviews which I am hesitant to trust...so I was hoping someone might have some good personal experience with some of these. I know Jose Feghali at TCU raves on and on about the Neuros...

Thanks.

Max,

I have an Edirol R1, but I really haven't set it up to try to make quality recordings. Instead, i walk around with it in my pocket, and make the occasional bootleg recording, which, considering the location of the device, doesn't sound great. I think I'd trust Feghali's judgment over mine, although on sheer technical grounds (24 bit 44 kHz vs mp3 [isn't that what the neuros records?]) it would seem the Edirol should be better. But do you need such extreme portability? Why not consider the Alesis Masterlink?

I can't give you any information on the various devices/programs which use a PC platform.

I see that the R1 has been superseded by the R09, half the size, slightly less expensive. When they get as small as wristwatches, I may buy another one.
